Leonard outboxed Hagler the way I saw it, and deserved the decision. I've not fully scored the second Hearns fight, so I wouldn't know.
I had Leonard losing both. The Hearns rematch being an outright robbery. What is so disconcerting about the Hagler fight is that one judge who scored it 118-110 Leonard....:-( When you see something like that, you know that the scorecards were filled beforehand, and Hagler's only chance at victory would have been by KO! Thats boxing in a nutshell for you. Decisions are too often popularity contest, and not necessarily skill contests! Before I wrote in this thread, I was in a mythical matchup thread that involves Evander Holyfield and Razor Ruddock. I went over to box.rec, and was browsing through Ruddock's record..... I was checking to see the fighters that Ruddock had lost too, he lost to Tyson twice, Lennox Lewis, Tommy Morrison, and lo and behold I got a chuckle out of his other lost to Dave Jaco That Jaco fight was very early in Ruddock's career, Ruddock was green and up and coming, Jaco had built more of a name than what Ruddock had. I remember having seen that Ruddock-Jaco fight, and there was no question about it that Ruddock was absolutely robbed. A known fighter in Jaco, against an unknown in Ruddock....a popularity contest.....it happens all the time in this crooked sport we call boxing!
I Had Leonard Edging A Win In The Hagler Fight But Definately A Case For Argument And Hearns Winning By 2 Points. I Thought Hearns Was Superb In That Fight!!!!
Napolean, judging by your avatar, you must have hated to make that mistake. Nice win for the Pistons last night, wasn't it?
Two 10-8 rounds, what the **** were you watchin. Yeah the last round could have been a 10-8 round and Leonard did have Hearns hurt but that's one of the few big rounds Leonard had. Hearns won and all that fight proved was that Hearns could never go 15 with Leonard.
Definatly. I missed the game yesterday, but i'll try to watch game 3 tomorrow. Celtics are something like 0-6 on the road, so it should be another win for Pistons.
Pulled out the old scoringcard... I had Leonard 57-56 after the first 6 rounds (10-9; 10-9; 8-10; 10-9; 10-9; 9-10), Hearns getting the extra point for the knock down in the 3rd round. Round 7: 10-9 Leonard (Hearns knocked Leonard along the ropes hearly on but missed a lot. Leonard dominated the last minute of the round) Round 8: 10-9 Leonard (Uneventful round which Leonard won with the jab. Hearns forcing the attack in the dying minute gave little results whereas Leonard landed a few more jabs) Round 9: 10-10 (Hearns connects with the left hook and catches Leonard with the big right hand to the body but runs out of gas and Leonard connects a left hook and a right to the head) Round 10: 10-9 Hearns (Hearns jab connected more than Leonard's in this somewhat uneventful round) Round 11: 10-8 Hearns (2nd knock down. Leonard fights back but Hearns gets the better of the exchanges) Round 12: 10-9 Leonard (Hearns owns the firs 40 seconds, runs out of gas and leonard wins the round) Leonard 114/Hearns 113 The other way round was acceptable and so was 113-113. Not a robbery at all.
I had Leonard winning because of the early rds.. I really would like to say Hagler won but I cannot. I had Leonard and Hearns a draw inspite of Leonard saying Hearns won.
i'll join ziggy montana and tom kaczmarek and say i thought leonard won the 2nd fight against hearns... i've watched this fight probably more than any other fight and everytime i watch it, i lean more and more toward leonard (the first time i saw it, i was like all you guys and thought hearns got jobbed) so that's my recommendation... watch the whole fight 10-20 more times and then see what your scoring is... also, watch it with the sound off, ryan and clancy gave every close round to hearns here is my scorecard on my most recent viewing: 1: 10-9 leonard 2: 10-9 leonard 3: 10-8 hearns 4: 10-9 hearns 5: 10-9 leonard 6: 10-9 leonard 7: 10-9 leonard 8: 10-9 hearns 9: 10-9 leonard 10: 10-9 leonard 11: 10-8 hearns 12: 10-9 leonard leonard 114-112
My BS detector just went off. I said that the decision could have gone either way but you appear to think that Hearns won by a wide margin (otherwise you wouldn't have called me a homer) Please provide your own scorecard, no need to break it down if you don't wish to. Also specify which rounds you don't agree with.
Looking back I'm sure SRL would rather lost to Hagler in a splendid effort than know that half of the fans will always consider him a thief. Hearns gets more respect for losing to Hagler than SRL did for the split decision. Even Ray jr. will have to hear that SRL got a gift for the rest of his life. Thats the breaks sometimes, SRL is a loser for winning!
