And yet he was faster than Tyson, still Liston demolished him nevertheless.... Liston takes longer to knockout Tyson but knock him out he would..

Prime liston weighed around 209-212 pounds. Tyson weighed 221 for the berbick fight. And i never said that he fought above 220 in his prime. I said 220.i did not say that Bruno did hit harder( it is possible), i said that he did hit as hard. You did not even read well the post because you got nervious when anyone picked tyson, all i said was 100% truth and facts. Not an opinion. You are too biased. After all you said that liston was the most complete fighter ever. Absurd

You're literally cherry picking Tyson's weights while picking Liston's lowest weights. He was 219 1/2 in 1961. Since you want to use Tyson's highest weight, I will use Liston's.

So, Dundee, who was there and who knew Liston to some extent, is not allowed to infer anything from Liston's behavior. But, you, 50+ years later are able to say that Liston wasn't intimidated.

    OK, gotcha.

Not 1 expert picked Iron Mike to win against Sonny.

    Surprising.

I would expect this fantasy matchup to be split down the middle with picks for both fighters.

Tyson would be stronger than Liston here. The height difference is only 2 inches. I think when most people imagine Liston they picture a really big scary dude when in all actuality Liston wasn't all that big and would look average next to Tyson if not out of shape.

Tyson was also a lot better than Patterson in every way. Liston is smaller than almost everyone Tyson ever fought and Tyson is bigger than just about everyone Liston fought so that has to be taken into perspective. Liston won't be bullying Tyson. Tyson was a lot more effective with the bob and weave than Patterson was for the simple fact that he was shorter.

    Tyson by KO rd 4.

This forum never stops astounding me. 30 extra lbs of solid muscle with the same speed and explosiveness is "just beefed up". Well, it is "beefed up" but not "just" by any stretch in my world.

It all depends on how Tyson can deal with Liston's jab. If he can't, everything else in his game falls apart and Liston KO's him mid to late rounds. If he manages to a slip and counter the jab or make Sonny afraid to use it in the first place (as happened with Holmes) it will be an early night.

I think Liston wins. He has too much long range artillery and much better stamina in the later rounds.

Tyson was a front runner who used intimidation as a primary weapon. His punch output and aggression tended to fade around round 6.

Liston was far more physically stronger than Tyson . Everyone knows this .

Foreman states all the time Liston was THE ONLY MAN he could never overpower and back up . That was in 1968 when Sonny was already an aging-ex champion . So I can only imagine how much stronger Liston was in his PRIME .

Tyson is better than Patterson , I know that .

Believe it or not Patterson was the faster fighter .

Tyson was only 5ft10 . He was not bigger than any other man liston has fought .

Cleveland Williams was 6ft3 and was the closest thing to Iron Mike back then .

Bob and weave combined with his hand speed would help Tyson against Liston . Absolutely .

I see him beating Liston to the punch constantly .

But Sonny can dish it and take it .

His legendary jab of his would be Tysons demise . He will begin to catch him and pick him apart .

Liston by TKO in 7 .

Yeah, and how old was Foreman when he sparred with Liston? An extremely green prospect who just started boxing, being star-struck training with his idol...

Tyson is stronger, heavier, much faster, far more athletic and technically proficient, he would stop Liston in the very early rounds, so would Foreman, although maybe not as fast...

Liston's jab is an overrated myth, extremely slow and telegraphed, his best punch was the left hook... Liston fough blown-up 175 pounders and cruiser, he himself fought under 200lbs, Tyson never did and his power is actually proven against true modern HWs, so he's clearly the hardest hitter too, like Foreman...

Tyson weighed around 217-221 in his prime. This is bigger and more compact than Cleveland Williams at 215.
When taking in account size weight is what is mean't. A guy that is 6 ft and 160 is smaller than a guy 5'8 175.

Yes Patterson was faster than Tyson but Tyson had a better combination of speed and power.

In Tyson's prime there is no man that has a jab to give Tyson trouble. Tyson had trouble with guys who could tie him up in a clinch and Liston wasn't much of a clincher.

No doubt this would be an explosive fight I just think Tyson would come out on top after the smoke clears.

Right, people that didn't intimately know much about Liston nor what he was or wasn't thinking. I haven't heard anybody close to Sonny saying that, but maybe it does exist. I'm someplace in the middle. I certainly think he underestimated Clay, because really, Clay wasn't some world beater at that point for him to take seriously. That said, I think his erratic behavior did bother Sonny some. Not sure he was scared, but sometimes it's not a matter of being scared, more a matter of just uncomfortable cause you don't know what this person will do any second.

Generally Tyson is sold a bit short here, I'd say. He's the one with real track record against fighters over 215 lbs.

If Liston times him with that long, powerful jab I think he wins, but does he? Tyson faced a lot of good jabbers and very few managed to really put him off with the jab. Much more often, Mike would counter opponent's jabs with devastating effect.

Douglas had great success with his long jab, but it was a fair bit snappier than I've ever seen Liston's. Liston's jab was more like Bruno's, quite slow but long and powerful. Bruno's jab had a somewhat green Lewis in all kinds of trouble, but even post prison Tyson countered it like it was nothing.

There is more than a fair chance that Tyson would slip that jab and come in with his lightening counters.

And don't give me that "Tyson would fall apart mentally" bull****. Sure, he lost his marbles against Holy, but Liston quite likely quit twice against Ali. I don't think anyone would quit here.
