It seems Tyson Fury can't win in the eyes of his many critics.

Surely RETIREMENT, or even a vague "retirement statement", is something to be welcomed. People have been accusing him of holding up the title picture and lacking the dedication and discipline and respect needed of a champion.
Now they're gonna b!tch about him retiring?

Fury's actually doing the right thing. He said after beating Klitschko he felt he'd never have the same motivation and feeling of achievement again.
Maybe he'll come back when there's someone new well established, maybe he'll feel he has something to prove. Who knows, who cares.

I guess people will miss him and resent his retirement because they need to have someone to despise?

Charles Martin was pretty terrible. At least Fury beat Wlad before this all started.

I suspect he will be back within two years.

Hope Ring and TBR go with the original statement and declare the championship vacant just to spite him.
He's such a clown, and did so much damage already.

I think they are currently checking their championship policies to see if there's a clause to "spite" a champion.

It's months overdue and only because he's about to be banned/didn't fancy the Wlad rematch. I'm not sure why you have an issue with people pointing out the obvious.

Anyway, I for one am happy for the division to move on without his circus. Hopefully someone can beat Wlad convincingly quickly and we can all draw a line under Fury's farcical reign as HW champion.

It's not months overdue. Every champion fighter has a right to reign for a while. There are no good excuses for pulling out of the Klitschko fight, but he did earn the right to be champion for 10 or 11 months.

I don't have an issue with anything other than the comments that imply he'd be wrong to retire and it would somehow be better to see him go through some legal stuff and more disputes and all the drug stuff and whatever.
It seems people would rather see "justice served" and they've already decided Tyson Fury is guilty so they want to see him suffer a humiliating defeat outside the ring rather than just retire.

Anyway, It seems he doesn't know whether he was joking about retiring or not.

What are you on about? I think everyone on here seemed pretty glad he was going to be out of boxing.

The fact you continue to defend this guy amazes me. He is a pathetic man child who doesn't give a toss about anyone but himself, laughs at the fans who forked out money on tickets and hotels, constantly makes offensive remarks and then blames everyone else for his behaviour. The guy is an embarrassment with a lower sense of self awareness than David Brent.

I will be glad when he retires for real and stops making a mockery of the most prestigious title in sports.

According to his Twitter account he is not retiring, basically playing with the media.

Tyson Fury has always been a clown. He talks sh!t, contradicts himself and every turn, and does what he likes. It's neither news nor a good reason to hate him, in my opinion.
Perhaps you want him to be a certain way but he won't be.

The shrill knee-jerk condemnations of Tyson Fury are amusing to anyone with a sense of perspective. But in this day and age no one seems to have much sense of perspective.

There are no excuses for not defending that title. He won it fair and square but he should be defending the title.

If Joshua won the belt and then didn't defend it for nearly a year he would be rightfully criticized. Fury tried everything possible to get out of fighting Vlad even though the rematch was agreed before the first fight.

Fury will get stripped and watch him still try and claim to be #1 as he will say he was never beaten in the ring.

Nevermind pulling out of a fight twice, refusing to be drug tested and then popping positive for taking Cocaine.

His reign will be remembered for what it is. Nothing short of a joke.

    Knee
Knee jerk? He pulled out of a fight twice. He sent drug testers away and likes to sniff coke. All of that alone is enough to ask WTF is wrong with this guy.

He is in no position now to criticise any other fighter as he has zero credibility.
