Hate to say it but I don't think we'll be seeing Tyson Fury in a boxing ring ever again.

 

Do you really think he'll come back and if he does don't you think it might well be another Oliver McCall type situation?

 

If he gets champion in recess, you normally get a 60/40 split. So if Joshua WBA champion by then, Fury has got himself an extra 10% than what Eddie Hearn deemed to be an acceptable split without lifting a finger.

I for one believed the second Fury-Wlad fight would have tanked badly with this Box Nation Box Office and poor ticket sales, so that extra 10% might be worth more than the entire Klitschko fight was for him. Plus he won't have to pay WBO sanctioning fees (and can let Hughie chase that), and Joshua's profile will be through the roof if he beats Klitschko.

Perhaps Fury is a genius business man after all.

But doesn't change the fact that he's champion. Unless he officially retires ie. announces that he is never fighting again, he's the champ.

I would venture that the circumstances were rather different.
Dempsey was making a fortune, how much do you think Fury would make over the next 3 years without fighting? I can't see a slew of advertising endorsements beating a path to his door can you?

 

I personally think, and hope, that Fury will be back next year. He'll have some time off, get the help he needs, and then will be itching to take on what he'll consider to be pretenders to his throne.

Or, if he doesn't get the help he needs, he'll likely go off the rails for a few more years, and return to boxing after all his money has disappeared up his nose.

 

You give Dempsey a pass because he "was making a fortune"? He's allowed to hold up the division and remain champion, and deny the top challengers a payday, because HE'S doing alright?
But Fury can't even take 18 months off (less than 11months as of today), for whatever reasons, without you saying "f--k him!".
Clearly double standards.

You know the history of the sport as well as I do. You know champons win and lose the championships in the ring.

It's sad that so many British boxing fans are so quick to want to get rid of the only legtimate world heavyweight champion we've had in years.

 

I think having people thinking he'll never return, and having fans and promoters pretending some other guys are the world champion, might well light a fire under Fury and give himself reason to get motivated.

On the other hand, he might just get fat and fatter and fade away.

 

I don't give Dempsey a pass, neither he nor any other inactive champ.I'm just saying he was making a ton of money,and asking how much Fury will make whilst inactive? The rematch with Wlad was a hard sell ,the first fight wasnt anything wonderful,now the prospect of Joshua and Wlad is upon us.
