    And he was blasted for it. Often, when an athlete guarantees a win it's all over sports networks and often his teammates and coaches try to reign in the comment a bit. The fact that he won doesn't change the reaction to his actual prediction. People thought Namath was out of his mind when he did that.

    I still think making a bold prediction the way that he did is a bit much. I'm not criticizing him, but it's not something I expect. I don't think it was necessary either. But that's his decision.

    He is just sowing confidence in his abilities to beat Floyd.

    If he didn't say it then theres no point in the rematch unless it's just for the money.

    Bold, yes. It is his last harrah and he wants to go out remembered by beating the best. If he loses badly, I don't know who he could fight next to go out into the sunset. I don't think that PBF can knock him out either. He has been stopped once by a good size MW and that was a body shot from hell. He has to go all out and hope he can somehow hurt PBF.

    Oscar listens to his cornerman first half of fight nowadays, and tries to force a knock out last half. I agree with that. But speaking of skillsets, Oscar can potentially beat Floyd if he comes in 100%. But, yes, the chances of that happening are not so good. Oscar does have the skills to do the job, its just a question of his silk pajama mentality getting in the way.

    I hate to burst your bubble...but every boxer guarantees victory before the fight...usually at the press conference or in an interview.:deal

    And no, most fighters don't say "I guarantee I will win". They may very well say they are going to win, but in sports, saying "I guarantee" carries a special meaning. All athletes in every sport say they are going to win a game or a fight....rarely do the words "I guarantee" come out of their mouths. And when it does, it's all over Sportscenter (if the sport is relevant in the states). Obviously I am referring to this special meaning and what others views on it were in this context.

    the word "guarantee" is only special in other sports not boxing...why because boxing is a one on one sport. When you guarantee a win in a group sport like Baseball, football or what have you, you speaking on behalf of the entire team...and that's ballsy.

    I disagree. I have never heard a fighter guarantee victory. Not in that context. But that's why I asked for thoughts.....thank you for yours. I get your point, but I don't recall seeing such an instance.
