He's recently come out saying he wants the Manny, Khan and Thurman/Garcia winner which indicates his looking to stay at 147. If he vacates his IBF title I will know for a fact he doesn't fancy the Spence fight which is a shame because I think either man could be the division's best fighter. People criticised me when I said Brook fought GGG for money and a chance to avoid Spence for longer but it seems my initial thoughts were correct.
I think the top guys at 154 beat brook comfortably they are all bigger than him and can match him for skills. At least at 147 he has the size advantage over most guys except Spence.
honestly he should just stay at 160 .. he already skipped 154 just mess your body up with these up n down weight gains. just bring some 154's up for your first couple fights. he can hang with the middle weights he was strong n healthy vs ggg. or just go to 154 .
brook will keep throwing spences name in that list of 5 or so guys...but we all know he doesn't want that fight....too risky....not enough money.....brook is chasing money...that's what the golovkin fight was all about....making brook look "tough" for taking the challenge but throwing in the towel at first sign of trouble....now his name looks attractive to the top guys at 147....
I know for a fact Haymon wants Brook to vacate . No way in the hottest pits of hell he wants Spence to travel to the UK for 25%, take VADA testing and fight someone as good as Brook . Or we could see Calzaghe Lacy 2. Haymon will offer up Khan to get Brook away from that belt .
Avoiding Spence for a better fight is fine. Brook v Thurman/Garcia/Pacquiao/Vargas/Khan Is better than Brook v Spence. That being said Erol is one hell of a talent.
Nothing wrong with chasing big fights but why beat every easy mandatory then when a good one comes along then your prepared to possibly vacate?
I take your point but, as is often the case, you are looking at it from purely a sporting PoV, which is fair enough from a fan perspective. But match-making is more business than sport and I would argue at 147 Manny, Khan and Thurman/Garcia would yield Brook pay-days which warrant the risk of moving back down to WW whereas Spence wouldn't, and he also represents a genuine risk of defeat. But my take is Brook should move to 154. Moving up two divisions is risky enough but moving up two and then down two in the space of two fights would be foolhardy.
I hear what your saying and I personally think Brook vs Spence is 50/50. I rate Spence at this point higher than Garcia, Vargas and Khan so don't think those guys are better fights fan wise. I rate Brook too but he's clearly not eager to take on Spence and risk possibly losing to prospect.
I'm only looking at it from a fan perspective coz that's what I am. If I put on my business hat then yeah your spot on Garcia/ Manny and Keith are bigger fights but are they realistic? Those guys won't travel to the UK because Eddie won't pay them what they want most likely and Brook doesn't really like travelling period. I get your point about the yo yoing weight divisions but at 154 all the top 5 guys beat him for me. So 147 is his best shot because he keeps his physical advantages.
