I think Ortiz is the real number 1 in HW right now

How is Ortiz #1, based on what win? He beat a 45 year old Tony Thompson and fringe contender Jennings. How does that make you top of the division?

Ortiz hasn't beaten a single top 10 contender!

 

I agree, he's being wildly over rated and hyped off of very little. Thompson was shot, so much so he lost to Scott prior to facing Ortiz and Jennings may have looked very good after his fight with Wlad but after Wlad's loss to Fury it's clear Wlad has declined more than we had thought.

So far Ortiz has shown he looks great when he has a target right in front of him. If he can dispatch a mobile opponent like Scott is similar fashion then I'll be more inclined to believe the hype but even then he still has to show he can hang with a genuine super heavy that can bang like Joshua, Wilder and Wlad.

I will say Ortiz does look good so far and he may very well be the hardest puncher in the division, but he still has a lot to prove before anyone can seriously say he is the top heavyweight in the division. Next year will be a big year for him, he needs a title shot desperately, he's at that age when he could start declining and become vulnerable.

I'm glad you said this. I've been thinking this for a while but not been sure. But what has he done to justify the hype? Yeah, he looks powerful and well-skilled but is 37 and relatively untested. Might sneak in the last spot in a top ten but only because there are so few world class HWs...

 

Maybe, but what has Wladimir Klitschko done lately ?
Some people actually have Wlad ranked #1 still, but he hasn't won a fight since April 2015 and that was against fringe contender Jennings, and he didn't even look good doing it.

What has anyone done lately at heavyweight?

I think Ortiz would beat Wilder unless Wilder gets a little more discipline in his game. I think Ortiz has the goods to take down a lot of big fish but I don't know how well he'd do against a bigger hitter like Povetkin. Also, I actually think his stamina is pretty good for a lard as$.

 

He's slow and old, I could see him beating wilder though. I'm most impressed with parker right now, AJ is a physical monster but I've seen him hurt already and he hasn't beat anyone with a pulse.

 

Jennings is better than any single Wilder win lol.

 

Well yes Wilder's opposition is garbage but nobody (in their right mind) has him on #1. Ortiz more seems like a legit contender who deserves a shot at a title, but hes not the king of the hill.

 

Tyson Fury is the real #1. Thats not even debatable and is based on the belts he won winning a fair fight against the lineal former champion Wlad. Wether you think ORtiz is a better fighter is irrelevant since it's opinions and isn't based on actual facts.

Regardless of his issues and problems outside of the ring. Tyson Fury is still the undisputed HW champion of the world and legitimately won 3 out of the 4 Belts.

 

It's more the manner he beat them than the names themselves (although I still consider Jennings a legit top fighter until proven otherwise).

 

Ok Wilder knocked out a bunch of tomato cans in spectacular fashion and we don't give him points for that (well I don't).
