Why is Ward always considered inactive, when Mayweather literally fought once a year for 4 years ?

    And for 18 months before that he did nothing but spend money and then he came back to fight in 2009. In between that time people would just wait for his announcement to fight like a King talking to his serfs. No one ever cried inactive even when he held onto the WBC 147 title from 2011-2013 until he fought Guerrero to retain it.

    No one called Pacquiao inactive after he took time off from taking 2 back to back losses from Bradley and Marquez. He was almost talking about retiring until the IRS and The philippines version of the IRS came knocking for money.

    Oscar De La Hoya took off all of 2005 battling Top Rank and taking a loss to Hopkins in September of 2004. He came back after 20 months out of the ring to fight Mayorga in 2006. Nobody was screaming about how inactive he was and ability to fight.

    Andre Ward took off 18 months to take care of his business. Why is everyone pretending not to know about his ability in the ring. Is it because he don't call people bitches and mutha****as so you can pay attention? People act as if he was out of boxing for 5 years and decided to come back. Sugar Ray Leonard did it for no reason at all throughout his career and people applauded him everytime he returned.
    Right now Mayweather has been gone for over a year and I bet my bank account if he returned you would not question his ability like you do Ward, I guarantee it.

    Put some RESPECT on the name of Andre "S.O.G." Ward a man who made it without a gimmick or a super start Oscar like opponent to make him a known name. He did with his hands the old fashion way. No HBO commentator to give him lip worship, no promoter out front praising him, no Worldstar fans to follow him, nothing!!!

    YA'LL MUSTA FORGOT!!!!!!

    Mayweather at least usually fought quality, albeit, not quality enough for his calibre or the expecations of fans.
    Paul Smith only from 17th November 2013 to 25th March 2016 for Ward is truly insulting. Paul Smith is gash, and I'm British.

    I see your point and sure he was off only 18 months but he hasn't had a real fight since Dawson back in what 2011 or 2012. his career seemed to lose all momentum

    However all can be forgiven if he beats Kovalev.

    I agree KO KIDD MOST will be forgotten if he beats Kovalev. But for someone with so much potential, he should have been so much more active. After the Super 6 there was so much promise. Lets hope for more in the future, perhaps a Kovalev loss even would spur him into gear :/

    Realistically even with that time off Ward has around the same amount of fights as most these "contenders" nowadays. I think these guys overall aren't as hungry dudes are getting multi million dollar paydays for average fights less incentive to be active or great for that matter.
    I really blame Mayweather but I don't at the same time when he made it big everyone saw business Floyd the guy making every fight a mega event, nobody paid attention to all the work out in to get there and disregard all the top 3 Champs he fought after he got there

    Ward has 2 or 3 really good wins, which to his credit is more than most so called top guys have out 2/3 wins is nothing on the greatness scale something these new fans need to realize. 2 good wins don't make you a HOFer or an ATG or entitled to anything .

    Think the difference is that those guys made it to the pinnacle - their fights were always events. With Ward, I think people know he has the skills to be at that level, he just needs to make the fights necessary to get him there. Glad to see him more active now and in with the kind of opponent we want to see him in beside. Really hope this fight is a big spectacle for boxing.

    You must not have been on this forum back then. People always argued about Mayweathers' activity and how it should affect P4P ranking/division ranking/title belts/mandatories/etc.
