For me it was an awful fight to score and watch , too dirty . I have kovalev winning 114-113. To be honest all i watch about Ward was highlights and didnt see any of that tonight , neither his chin nor his power looked good tonight. In the other side kovalev had the tools to win this fight but looked like he wasnt in the fight, mentally.
Interesting comeback from Ward after he was seemingly on the way to getting KTFOed in the 2nd round. Scores are completely fine, Kovalev slows down in the 2nd half of the fight. A lot of the rounds are close.
Both fighters fought a great fight. I was impressed by ward but have to admit i thought he came up just short. with the difference being the knock down...ill have to watch it again. It was a great fight. glad i ppv'ed it.
Hooker's draw with Perez foreshadowed the Kovalev/Ward decision. You kinda knew that Kovalev wasn't going to get the decision unless he knocks Ward out. Despite the official scores, I still don't think Ward is a better fighter than Kovalev. He didn't show it tonight.
I feel 114-113 either way is fair but Kovalev swept the early rounds hurting Ward badly and then Ward slowly started edging in to the fight until he was dominating the last 4 rounds and Kovalev had no answer looking tired and confused. He wrestled Ward to much and gassed out
Ward lost. Kovalev won. A rematch would be ok....but it is doubtful if the outcome would be different as apparently boxing is totally corrupt. WWE is more honest. Sickening.
Soul-destroying. I've been around ESB/boxing24 since like 2001 or so, and this is the closest I've ever felt to just letting go of the sport. Things like this should happen in figure skating and gymnastics, not boxing. I'm pissed, and sad for the state of the sport.
It reminded me a lot of cotto/Mayweather, close rounds. I thought ward did enough to win he worked the body from the 4th round up and his sneaky punches that he wasn't getting credit for and kovalev throws and hits air but he's getting praise for. In a rematch ward stops him. It was s good fight though. Fights like this that was so entertaining yet critics still hurt the sport. Lederman has vision problems he gives kovalev rounds which to me he completely loss like the 4th, 9, 10
Really wasn't close fight....................holding should not be scored...........................................I agree with Lederman 116 - 111 Kovalev. In the rematch Kovalev should just go ahead and knock Ward out and be done with it. Ward did not win the fight, he landed fewer punches, got knocked down, was hurt and was holding all night......................
Thought kovalev won a fairly close but irrefutable decision. I couldn't give ward more than 5 rounds max, and that's not even accounting for the knockdown. I think this fight is a great advertisement for open scoring. If a guy is getting jobbed on the cards, you can at least see it as it's happening and it let's the fighters know what's up so they can adjust accordingly.
OP, we can disagree on who we thought won, but I don't know how any one can say this was an awful fight to watch. It was very exciting.
