No, I don't think it was a good fight. Too much wrestling, not enough boxing. I don't like that style. Don't care who uses it -- Wlad, Hatton, Ward, whomever -- I don't like it.
It was an interesting fight, but nothing I'd watch again. If it wasn't a big name fight I wouldn't like it very much. Because of who was involved in it I was entertained. It had high moments. It wasn't a bad fight by any means, but it also wasn't a great fight. It has me worried for the state of boxing in the future now. MMA is hurting boxing and dull fights or robberies are not a good thing to have in high profile fights right now. Especially after the Mayweather-Paquiao fight that no one enjoyed. I take that back- I'd watch it again.
It was all right. Ref stopped the clinching early but then he slacked and it became a grapple-fest. Based on just the spectacle a rematch isn't warranted, it wasn't that entertaining.
I'll repeat what I said in another thread: It's boring to me when the punches don't appear to be having significant effect. When you know from round 6 that nothing is going to happen and you just have to sit for another ~25 minutes until they read the decision, I don't like it. I take no joy in awarding points either, as it's either lopsided or close. If it's lopsided, then the outcome is a foregone conclusion so I may as well not even watch. If it's close, it feel arbitrary to me, and who knows what the judges will see so it feels meaningless. There needs to be a risk of KO or I don't like it. Golovkin-Brook was a good fight. I loved it. This one I did not.
Awesome fight and while I don't think it'll be FOTY, it should be a candidate for the award. Two top P4P fighters with a difference in styles- a boxer vs a puncher- collide in a match where the puncher drops him early and looks like he's about to stop him, the boxer comes back, fights his heart out and is able to eek out a competitive decision. If they don't do an immediate rematch than I hope the loser takes on Adonis, with the winner of that match fighting Ward maybe in the late summer/early fall of 2017 for the title of undisputed LHW champion.
Just because someone didn't get knocked out doesn't mean the punches aren't having a significant effect or that somebody couldn't get knocked out at any moment. A lot happened after round 6, both guys just had good chins, and in Ward's case, great defense. What made this fight exciting was precisely the risk of a KO, early. Ward was in trouble early on, and we wondered if Ward could even make it through the early rounds. He not only did that but managed to come back and turn the fight around.
