Pretty sure it was a 10 rounder indeed. And I think it should have been a draw or maybe close for the Merciless man. Though calling 3 losses for Lewis is a stretch. A draw against Mercer had been fine, he got lucky with the cut against Big Vit and there should have been a rematch, the draw against Holy was bull, and showed American bias at its worst, the losses against Rahman and the Atomic Bull were very clear and decisive, while he avenged both but only Rahman in a good way. At the end Lewis retired with the exact record he should have, only in a slightly different way. 2 losses, 1 draw and retired at the right time to keep his legacy intact.
It was a close fight that Mercer was winning after six rounds but Lewis came on the stronger in the final four. A win for either man could have been justified, so too could a draw. If it had been a twleve round fight instead of a ten then any controversy could have been avoided.
The first Lewis/Rahman fight had a rematch clause and Rahman was contractually obliged to give Lewis an immediate rematch even though he didn't want to and had to be taken to court to honour the contract- Rahman wanted an easy first defence against David Izon but the judge forced him to fight Lewis. Neither the Mercer or Vitali fight had a rematch clause. They are not similar situations.
Regardless of contracts, rematch clauses, etc. Lewis was in 2 of the toughest fights of his career and was lucky to get the W in both. Both Mercer and Vitali wanted a rematch and Lewis didn't want to go there again.
Maybe Lennox was lucky against Mercer. But the fight with Vitali, that was a legit win. He turned the other guy's face into chopped meat.
