True. I think if it was Kovalev who got the nod against Ward, most on this site would be making a case for Kovalev for FOTY. So it's fair for Ward to be in discussions as well.

Kovalev wouldn't deserve it IMO for not winning convincingly. I feel that a sizeable number give Kovalev more credit than he deserves in the fight because a. scoring fights is not that easy b. they didn't expect him to be able to box with Ward the way he did, so they probably give him extra credit. Quite frankly, I didn't expect him to box that good, either.

    Quigg > Martinez
    LSC > Walters

It's close but for me I'd probably say

    Gonzalez
    Ward
    Frampton

Fighter of the year is based on performances.
if you want to say beating Walters and Martinez is better than Quigg and LSC,that's fine.

Whether he's had 7 fights or 100 fights is irrelevant though in choosing fighter of the year

Fighter of the Year is more holistic than that. Either way, Lomachenko's performances against his opponents were better than overrated Frampton can ever dream of against his opponents.
To pull of performances like that whilst you're still transitioning does add to the performance aspect IMO.

Your right bro, I don't know what it is about Ward people hate, he's a family man who seems like a good role model compared to the likes of Floyd, Tyson fury, broner and some of today's biggest boxing stars.

Yeah but, who has faced a fighter as good as Ward or Kovalev this year? You're talking pound for pound fighting each other, so of course they aren't going to look as impressive as Loma did against Walters.

    Yes, FOTY.

Lomo has amazing skills, but what separates him for other very fast boxers who have a good defense is he has more power in a pound for pound sense and he's far more aggressive and fan-friendly. Lomo seeks challenges, and doesn't wait for them to be ripe for the picking like say Mayweather the last #1 pound for pound fighter did .

Frampton, who I considered a level above Santa Cruz, IMO didn't do enough to beat Santa Cruz. The fight was dead even and should have been a draw. Very good fight tho. The real Fighter of the Year and p4p #1 should be Sergey Kovalev for beating Ward, Idc what the judges think. Whitaker was given p4p #1 even tho he got a draw against Chavez the same should be done with Kov.
