He's right! He is also close himself in terms of skills IMO.

Hes very close IMO. I posted my list yesterday with him at 2. Theres just no way I couldnt put the Ward/Kovalev winner at 1.

Usyk is scheduled to take on South Africa's Thabiso Mnchu. The African is a pretty decent boxer who just doesnt play in the Ukranian 's league. He will be outclassed in their upcomming encounter.

For the ones of you who have no clue who Usyk is: watch the Usyk docu with english subtitles! It is really worth watching as you get an impression who Usyk is and what he stands for.

Fair enough, Loma needs to accomplish more to get to #1. Still, he looks like #1 to me.

Mchunu is actually (very close to) world-class, he's a former belt-holder with some decent wins. I agree that he'll be outclassed, Usyk is also a lot bigger than him too.

Eye test only he might be 1. But for me the list is a combination of eye test and competition. Dont get me wrong Lomachenko is doing good things as far as competition. Just not quite on par with Ward right now.

Lomachenko could be better than Gonzalez, but he'd have to move up two more divisions to prove it. I'd be as curious to find out what happens when Lomachenko fights Crawford as I am to find out what happens when Gonzalez fights Inoue. That Cuadras fight was no joke. Could you imagine Lomachenko going toe to toe with Broner or Postol? That's the equivalent of what Gonzalez has already done. Well, that and go undefeated for 46 fights instead of 1.

I don't feel Gonzalez is getting his due. He'd still be blasting everybody out of there if he'd only moved up two weight classes instead of four. Lomachenko looks great, but would he look that great at junior welter?

Skill and talent wise, yes, he still lacks the resume to take the #1 spot, but i don't see any active fighter looking for greatness as much as Lomachenko.

You're making a fair point with the weightclasses but Gonzalez turned pro as a teenager while Lomachenko didn't. It's a bit different when your body is still growing.

In that case, Golovkin moved up four weight classes in the amateurs. He could be #1.

Usyk just gave an interview, with his good friend Gvozdyk interpreting for him. Said he plans to unify at least 2 or the cruiserweight titles and then move up to HW in 2018.

I was making the opposite point actually. Nice effort though.
