You read that correctly. One judge ( Taylor ) was doing his job and had Smith far ahead. The other two had very close with 4 rounds to go to " fix it ". Boxing continues to be plagued by either incompetent or crooked judges. We didn't see this fix/robbery announced because Hopkins went out head over heels out of the ring, but I think it would have happened in the form of a Draw or Split Decision for Hopkins. What do you think? Judges: Pat Russell 67-66, Tim Cheatham 66-67, Tom Taylor 64-69
While I'd like to think the 10-8 round would've sealed it for Smith, it's a distinct possibility that they'd have screwed him with an SD loss.
I think Smith was going to do enough to win a SD looking at the scorecards, but there was definite bias in Mr Russell's card. No way Hopkins was up by a round.
Look at all of the people on here that were claiming Hopkins was up... I had Smith up 6-1... With a round or two being really close and possibly going the other way. There's no way Hopkins was up though, even if you gave him all the close rounds... You'd have to give him rounds he clearly lost. Looked like Hopkins was starting to fade and had he not been stopped I think it's fair to say Smith would have edged the remaining rounds and taken a clear UD. Even with a bias there's only so much the judges could have done for Hopkins. Crazier things have happened though.
Jeez & you guys claimed I see corruption everywhere. But youre right boxing is corrupt Blatantly corrupt I'm sad to say
Hopkins won two rounds at most. His defense was fairly solid, and he was making Smith miss the vast majority of his punches, but he was throwing hardly a thing in return. You can't win rounds like that. Good for Smith for not letting there be any type of Shenanigans with the score card. It looked like Oscar brought in his Canelo package for the fight. Not just buying off one judge, but two.
How does Oscar "buy off judges", seriously? Were there aliens in the crowd too? Do you really believe Oscar De La Hoya literally met with those two judges and slipped them a few hundred dollars bills or something before the fight? Don't get me wrong, I disagreed with the scores, but I think the close scores have more to do with B Hop's longevity in the sport than anything sinister. We see controversial scorecards all the time. Look at Kovalev vs Ward and how many people thought Kovalev won. If Ward was Canelo and Canelo fought the exact same fight as Ward did, and got the decision, you would probably be blaming Oscar De La Hoya for paying off the judges. Meanwhile, Floyd Maidana I was hugely disputed at the time, and Floyd got a gift decision that could have easily been scored for Maidana. Did TMT pay off the judges there?
Yeap, the fix was in. Those idiots from box nation had Nard 4-2 after 6, i mean wtf they were watching? All i've seen that night was an old mean geting a beat down and those morons cheering to "great jab to the body" by Nard. Boxing is done, not only the judges are on the take but the quality of the fans and commentators these days is pathetic, everybody's looking for excuses to give rounds to their fighter. Learn to score a fking fight, the guy hitting the other one more is winning, i don't give a fk about wresling, footwork, defense or other crap excuses to score for the fighter who's your colour!
On the Judges past performances in Boxing I would say Yes there was a Big possibility Smith would have been Robbed....Boxing is dirty to the Core and needs a good clean out.!!!!
Boxing has always been dirty and dishonest and always will be. The only way Smith would have gotten rounds down the stretch against Hopkins would have been for him to pummel him from pilar to post every round. Unlikely against a defenseive staller type like Hopkins.
the ref in his match with either murat or shumenov blatantly helped him, then hugged him after the fight. never seen a non brit ref so obviously flaunt his bias.
