Akiwande was a legitimate and capable top ten ranking heavyweight at his best. He was also 6'7 with a 86" inch reach... Three inches longer than Wilder himself. He also had zero problem sitting back and using that reach. Akiwande is also better than a glance at his record would indicate. He was a mile ahead against Oliver McCall before slowly down to a halt in the final round. That was late in his career, however. He also choked in his biggest fight against Lewis, joining an innumerable list of fighters. But, that doesn't mean he was a bad fighter. Anyone, I can't wait to hear the discussion on this one.
Good match up. You are correct that Akinwande was late in his career when he lost to McCall but before the finish had boxed really well. Wilder looks faster and bit more explosive , Akinwande perhaps more skilled. I struggle to pick but at this time slightly favour Akinwande due to Wilder still being a bit unknown about how far he will go
Good post, thank you. I agree. Akiwande could definitely punch when he sat down on his punches. You could argue he deserved a knockdown against Lennox (Glove touched) and he took out Williams quite brutally. Zolkin was also durable.
The hit to the top of a low crouched Lewis did have Lewis's glove touch the canvas, That was an odd fight where Akinwande just seemed to hold. I wonder if nerves got to him in that one?
I think wilders power would be the difference.once Henry had a taste he.would go into his shell and drop a points decision.could be very negative.
