Why have you only seen some of it? Do you mean you have you only seen the trailer?

 

Na mate i m sure its on showbox already or one of the apps. Watched about half to three quarters of it. Sure de niro,s in it. Its actually done pretty well one of the better ones that have came out over the years. But i find biopics hard going personally.

 

Ingmar johannsen was never poor.

 

Marco Antonio Barrera was born to a middle class family, look how he turned out to be.

 

The majority of boxing champions come form poor socio-economic backgrounds. Poverty made most past champions, with a few exceptions.

Barrera was a trained in law, came from a mdidle class family. He was a rare exception.

 

Yeah pretty sure barrerras old man was a pretty wealthy movie set worker or something like that. Not sure if he did ever finish his law degree but think he was in the 3rd year of it just prior to the first morales fight and decided after it to concentrate more on boxing.

Think thats partly why morales hated him so much...because he was from the poor district whereas barrerra the more affluent area. Law degree etc.

 

That's hardly grounds for hating him.....

 

Yeah. Bit harsh from morales if true. Think maybe inferiority complex going on. If you were super poor tho you probably would resent people that had it easier etc.

 

Good read. Can't say the book made me warm to him as a person. Displays barely a hint of humanity. His personality does come across though. He really is just a mean b*stard but I doubt he'd have achieved as much as he did in the ring if he wasn't actually like that. Some good anecdotes in it as well, particularly those involving his pet lion. Recommend it.

 

I felt the same, was a cracking read but I didn't put it down and think what a good bloke he was

I read a biography on him by Christian Giudice, a superb book.

Don't know if I want to read Duran's version to be honest, might give a different vibe.
