I think that will be a big ask. Gonzalez has moved up a division too far if you ask me. He will struggle from this point onwards. Kudos to him taking that rematch. It's going to be a war. Can't wait.
Not at all, actually superfeatherweight is slightly deeper than featherweight. And nevertheless, I believe Vasyl moved up in order to find a more suitable weight from his perspective.
If he pulls on a convincing performance against Salido, Flanagan @ 135 and Gamboa back at 130 (who had a tune up), on top of his current body of work, would that be enough to beat everybody else? How about if it was Salido, Gamboa and the Corrales-Uchiyama II winner?
Other than Inoue (who might be difficult for Gonzalez to dust), there isn't a horde of other possible names for Gonzalez. There are oodles for Loma to shine against.
Lomachenko is 28 and has tons of talent and is improving. He's going to be #1 at some point. Even if he is only #1 because the other guys you have in front of him retired, he will be #1. EDIT I read that wrong. I didn't see 2017. Okay I see him being at #3 at the highest.
I agree, he was fighting a very good fighter in a higher weight class. But so was Loma, except he was fighting an exceptionally good fighter, that many thought would beat him. Don't get me wrong, Chocolatito is great, but I believe his career run is over. His current weight will prove too much for him.
That's not true at all. There are loads of good fighters at/around superfly and in Gonzalez/Inoue each has an available opponent better than anything Loma has, for me. But what your post does show is that Inoue/Gonzalez might struggle to get proper credit on here for defeated opposition.
Loma went up in weight against the number 1 and made him quit. Chocolatito did well but was nowhere near dominant. Those two fights alone give Loma an edge.
I didn't say anything about there not being good fighters at the 112 /116 weight or thereabouts. I said there weren't a lot of names down there, of the stature o f a Vargas, a Linares, a Crawford etc. Ore even a Salido or a Broner. Not necessarily all greats of the sport, but better known than the little fellas, save perhaps Inoue and Gonzalez themselves. Exactly.
Lol no. The only established good fighter at 126 is Frampton the rest are mediocre or prospects like Valdez, Diaz Jr. 130 also has some promising prospects like Tevin Farmer and Gervonta Davis plus Gamboa may come back.
Would love to see him fight Sosa later in a unification, and if he can KO Sosa he'll defo climb into the top 5 on most folks P4P lists. That is, after he's sent Salido into nowheresville
Corrales just edged Uchiyama in a rematch. Uchiyama will probably retire. I think we might end up seeing Corrales vs Lomachenko in late March as it appears according to the scene, that Salido would prefer to wait out to see what happens on Jan 28th with Miura and Vargas fights.
