I think unless you are really really big at LHW and are suffering to stay in the division like Bellew was, a move up to Cruiserweight is a tough decision.

The transition from LHW to CW is possibly the most difficult as its essentially the same as moving up more than 2 divisions in one go.

How do you think he fares in the most exciting division in boxing? Can he beat any of the champions or even the top 10 guys like Dorticos, Glowacki, Huck, Bredis, Mukabu etc.

If he moves up, he's good enough to be a top 15-10 IMHO. Can't see him beating the top of the division e.g. Usyk, Gassiev though, both are too big, too powerful, and can take his power ...

He has the frame for it. Beterbiev is going to catch him eventually though, he can't run forever.

It isn't the same as moving up two divisions honestly. The heavier you are the less the weight matters, basically. It balances out to just moving up one weight class. That being said, I don't think this is the right move for him. Wouldn't he be a pretty small CW dimensionally? I don't think it is in his best interests to move up, but if he can't get this Andre Ward rematch I would understand moving to a different division out of frustration. This is a guy that tried to ge ta fight with Adonis Stevenson that hasn't happened, fought Ward as the champion and very arguably got robbed for three of his belts AND has to deal with the idea of Ward retiring before he even gets his rematch that is in his contract in the first place. You know he'd be an avoided fighter with how dangerous he is and with no titles opponents have even less incentive to get a match with him. Another thing is that a lot of the top cruiserweights are eastern europeans so the fights are probably going to either happen in russia or be between EEs so you don't have that underlying risk of what people are calling "hometown decisions".

I think any of the current LHW's would struggle a bit at Cruiser. There are sharks there.

It is the same as moving up two divisions if your only 6 ft putting on 25lbs of fighting weight is very difficult there's a reason why he fights at 175 and not 200lbs. Someone like Bellew who is 6'3 has the frame to add that on and it be effective for him.

The Adonis Stevenson situation was ultimately hes promoters fault and the Ward decision whilst unfair is also him and his promoters fault, how the hell would you allow 3 judges from the same country as your opponent when your the champ. With that being said Ward owes this man a rematch or he will have to retire and being considered a coward.

This. I'm a Kovalev fan but I see him getting out boxed pretty comfortably by Usyk. Too much reach, size and skill.

Did you see Beterbiev beat up the best cruiser (Usyk) at the 2012 Olympics?

To be fair Bellew has done well up there, Vlaslov just got a decent win too. But like I said only guys who are very big for LHW will have a chance of doing anything significant up there.

In a pic I saw lebedev looked twice the width of kovalev then I saw gassiev look alot bigger than lebedev, bad choice.

This is hilarious people in the Classic Forum say guys like Gene Tunney and Marciano who weighed 175 to 180 could beat guys like Lennox Lewis, George Foreman, Anthony Joshua, either Klitscko brother, Riddick Bowe or any other 6'3 230 plus pound guy because of (skill) but now you are saying Kovalev can't move up 15 pounds and be successful?

So do you think Kovalev would go up there and beat the top guys? It's a huge ask, I'm not saying it's impossible but there are weight classes for a reason. Don't get me wrong there are some small guys at CW in mukabu and mchunu but you see how they perform against bigger men in Bellew and Usyk.

I am saying if people believe 170 pounders like Marciano and Gene Tunney could beat 230 pound guys then why don't think they think Kovalev could move up. I don't think Sergei is any special at light heavyweight. I think if he moved up he would get knocked out.
