I don't disagree, but by reproducing one part of a quote and not another it (intentionally) gives a slant that wasn't there...
Ward is a control freak... good in the ring, not so appealing out of it. If I was Kovalev I'd move on from the rematch and leave Ward nowhere to go, or walk him right into a fight with Beterbiev. Kovalev should chase Smith while his profile is high...
If Ward retires that means free for all for those 3 titles. I can see some Cleverly level fighter getting a hold of one and taking back to his home country playing champion. I can see Kov getting one of his titles back. Maybe Kov and Beterbiev can fight for one of the titles. If Ward retires I could really care less. I don't enjoy his style and think he gets away with too much fouling. Many of my casual boxing friends described the fight with Krusher as an "MMA match" and it really did have that feel for many rounds. Bye bye Andre. I much prefer to see hungry lions such as Spence, Brook, Thurman, Charlo, Andrade, Derevenchenko, Joshua, Wilder, etc.
Ward fought Kov the first time after some people were saying he would pull out of the fight, wouldn't dare get in the ring with him, etc. There is no real reason to think Ward won't fight him again other than some fans' interpretations of what he is saying in his interviews. If he books another fight or blatantly says he will not fight Kov ever again, then we can say he is running from the rematch. Until then, Ward deserves credit for the first fight and the win, and he should get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to these claims of him ducking in the future (something he has never done in the past).
I wasn't quite that wide but had Kovalev winning comfortably. I thought you could make a pro Ward case for it being close but still can't see how anyone could genuinely score it for Andre.
There were a lot of people even saying that before he faced Barrera. My worthless 2 cents - he's testing the waters to see how desperate Duva and company actually are at this point.
This is probably just BS he lost 115-112 IMO but won 4 of the last 6 rounds. Doubt he runs from the rematch if he can start off in round 1 like he did in the middle rounds of the 1st fight he should win the rematch easily(unless hit with something big). Still he can retire anytime he wants he doesn't even need a reason. Will look bad if he comes back after a year or so though.
If he starts playing games Kovalev should just move on. I'd hate to see Kovalev lose a year or two of his career like Wlad did with Fury rematch. As dan Rafael said let's see Kovalev vs Stevenson since we know he already beat Ward.
The delectable Dame Jane Couch, MBE. Over 5 years old this interview. The bit about Ward not having 3 American judges and an American referee lol This content is protected
