Hell yes. Starling was nothing but a lazy bum and outhustled by Bump city Bumphus. A good lightweight could whip Starling on points.
Why not? Starling at best was a cheese champ and not much bigger than Pryor. Pryor would punch his lazy lights out.
I have a feeling Marlon wouldn't underestimated Aaron. If he did, he would definitely lose. But Aaron would not walk over a determined Marlon, and would lose mid to late in the fight.
Panama Lewis will remove padding from Aaron's gloves and put the "Special wrap's" on Pryor + the "Special Mix" and it's a wrap.
Starling was too good of a boxer to lose to Pryor. The Hawk would try to swarm Marlon, but Starling would counter him all night and probably stop him late.
I think Moochie has an excellent chance here. Technically he is far better as well as being the bigger man. Pryor's incredible energy and awkwardness will hold him in good stead and i see his best chance being to just plain bombard Starling with workrate. Pryor's chances of a stoppage IMO are slim and none. I like Starling via decision, but Pryor is definitely a live one.
I see this being a Winky Wright - Harry Simon type of fight. Starling (ala Wright) will probably land the cleaner blows, but Pryor's workrate and constant punching (ala Simon) will probably catch the attention of two of three judges and Pryor would get a split verdict (in a fight I thought Starling won by a few points).
Starling was solid at welterweight and Pryor lost his one (I think only) fight at welterweight even though it was a strange ending versus Bobby Joe Young. Starling by UD.
I'm just wondering how Starling is going to outscore Pryor. I thin it's the other way around. Pryor is the one who can fill in the blanks faster and his pro experience is much more solid than Starling's. Moreover, Marlon seems to be a one dimensional fighter while Pryor showed in the Arguello fight how effective he is at the game of counterpunching here. I think Pryor is just on another level.
Good stuff and I'm close to agreeing with your logic... but something bothers me. Starling isn't going to keep Pryor at bay. He didn't settle down on his shots enough, prefering instead those open gloved cash registering punches. Pryor will not let him breathe and may overwhelmn Starling's defense. You may well turn out right, but I lean towards Pryor on points.
I think Marlon can offset Aaron long enough for a decision win,but it would be a hard fight for him if he clowns.
