I actually think that Mosley's chin is better. He's been in there with better fighters than Margo, some who are much bigger than he, and he's stood up to everyone's power. Stamina wise I guess I'd give it to Margo. Shane has prety good stamina himself but Margo is a punching machine who doesn't quit.
Anyway, there are lots of people who think Cotto can stop Margo and I'm one of them. Sure Margo is big and strong, but he's also defensively flawed and no matter how strong a rock is, you hit it enough times and it'll break. In a war like this is expected to be I think either guy has a great chance of being stopped. By corner stoppage, on their feet against the ropes, to the body, or a straight up 10 count.. either way I don't see somebody making it to the end of this fight without being stopped.
You see you can easily use this logic as justification for those fans who see Cotto totally outclassing the relentless Margo. Margo's activity can become his biggest flaw. Are Margo's hands as fast and accurate as Mosely or Zab? No, yet Cotto was able to counter both men quite easily. This is what nullified their activity level and made them think before attacking or just become desperate. Now Margo will most likely continue to press the action without regard for Cotto's attack though he will be damaged in the process he's stubbroness may very well lead him to a slow grueling defeat.
:deal I must be missing something here. I agree that this match up, stylistically, is frigg'n awful for Margarito.
How so? Because the way I see it both styles mesh well for a fantastic and highly competitive fight... and most fans seem to think so as well.
At times I feel so detached from posters who feel Margo is a complete stylistic nightmare for Cotto. I mean other than the obvious physical advantages Margo holds I can't see why anyone would think Margo will just steam roll Cotto. Margo has one gear and any mildly talented boxer can exploit this the issue is maintaining your composure when he turns up the heat. Margo does not fight tall nor would be effective as a tall fighter because his primal instincts will have him crouch and swing when desperate. I can picture Cotto going in and out landing combonations at will while concentrating on defense when Margo wails away. I guess we can theorize the outcome for days, you can put together all different types of scenerios I think versitility will come into play in this fight and when you think of versitility you don't naturally insert Margo into that picture frame.
Margarito is right there to be hit. Cotto above all else is a great boxer with very fast hands. His jab is like a straight right when he throws it hard. I saw Kermit Cintron hitting Margarito almost at will with his right hand. I also saw Paul Williams peppering the wide open Margarito also. I'm not at all bashing Margarito here, I'm a fan of his but I'm realistic. Cintron was a great matchup for him because he threw one punch and when Margo took it, Cintron just stood there and surrendered to an inside fight. Cotto has much better footwork and much more weapons then Cintron had/has. He won't throw his money punch and when Margo is still standing, say "oh ****" and give up pretty much. I see Cotto alot like I saw a prime Tito, anybody that comes at him is in for a serious beating, the only way to beat him is to out box him.
margarito stamina is overrated! he is good in the late because he has historically given away the first four rounds . as he know painfully learned through williams u cant do that against top tier opponents. if he tries from the opening bell too punch 100+ per round he will not have anything left in the tank come championship rounds. where was his stamina in round 12 against williams?
Hmm I see.:think Fair enough. Personally I see the styles matching up great together from a technical standpoint. Everyone can talk of how talented Cotto is and all but Margo isn't without his talents and I think his style opens up a lot of Cotto's flaws of which he does have some. Cotto carries his guard high which leaves openings down the middle which fighters have exploited in the past. Margo's uppercuts are the perfect recipe for that. Also in the Mosley fight I noticed that Shane was able to time right hands over the top on Miguel and that right hand happens to be Margarito's best punch. Now while Cotto may be good moving around he's not unbelieveably great at it. What he does great is come forward, and his hands are quick, but they ain't lightning fast either. Still, I think that advantage in hand speed will serve him best on the inside where Margo's longer arms and longer leaner body will become a detriment to him. Couple all the above in with Margarito's obvious strength and physical sturdiness as well as his high workrate, and I think he has what it takes to stretch Cotto to the limit, and vice-versa.
I think u missed my point , wat i meant was historically margaritos output doesnt increase until the later rounds thats why he would give up the first few rounds. but as he has stated numerious times over the last year that he will come out attacking from round 1! but i dont think he can keep that pace up for 12 rounds because if u watched thepaul williams fight u could see that after pushing to get back into the fight over those last six rounds he clearly had nothing left in the last round. and i would have to say in my opinion that cotto hits with alot more intent then wiliams! ask quintana.
Mayweather would have to get in the ring to beat both of them, so on that basis you are wrong. Miguel Cotto has enough fire power to stop anybody in the Welterweight division, but Margarito is arguably the toughest fighter not only in that division but in all of Boxing today. I can't see Cotto stopping Margarito, but I suppose it could happen if he went to the body.
