The reality is that this thread is not about whether Brook's eye was badly damaged - we all know it was, its about GGG saying he's never been hurt, when clearly to even someone with one eye and half a brain, Brook lit him up and hurt him.
The problem I have with GG, is not about his abilities as a boxer, he's tremendous and in the next 2-3 years could do great things and earn his spot in the HOF. No, that's not the issue. My beef is, that to some here, he has to be seen as superhuman, like he's the embodiment of of some deeply-held belief, the talisman for something beyond the boundaries of sport and to accept flaws in him as a fighter is to accept weaknesses in a wider cause. And the best shield to observing the frailties which live in any man, is to build their icon into something otherworldly. Therefore, we witness reveling in claims he cannot be hurt, his power is greater than a HW, his chin is cast in the foundry of iron souls. He's unbeatable. But in the end, he's just a man who can box. Very well as it turns out.
Well said. In other words, your beef is with a certain section of his fans who won't accept GGG is a human ... I'm a GGG fan, but I find the idolization of him most repulsive. Especially as it has annoyed some good posters and made them dislike GGG.
I thought for "certain" I saw him hurt but now after reviewing it 100x I can't be sure, he was buzzed that I think I'm sure of. Check Hogg vs amari. Ggg was 12/0 10Ko going in, last opponent to not get ko'd, only 8 rounder but this dude was one tough mofo and this was ggg toughest fight by FAR. It was the 4th round. that's the most damage I've seen any shot impact ggg. so now I believe he was buzzed or stunned but not hurt and whatever the shot meant ggg had to clear the cobwebs, and that was a massive left hook on the button which he never saw coming
I've managed to avoid disliking him, thankfully. I make sure I watch all his fights and don't tune in hoping he will lose. I want him truly tested, like all great fighters should be. But when I joined ESB I was stunned by the worship and railed against it a bit.
