He didn't let Fury do anything Fury DICTATED the pace And if he had tried to put pressure on Fury he would have gotten knocked out
Impossible to say until we see him in the ring again. Personally I suspect it was a combination of his getting old and losing a bit of the timing and speed that's necessary for a man of his style, mind games from Fury in the build up, and Fury's performance on the night, which kept Wlad guessing and never gave him a chance to establish his rhythm.
Wlads key attribute was the fact he is a big tall man with good quick hands at the end of long arms and a great jab. Over the last 10-12 years Vlad has faced one of 2 types of fighter. Big tall heavy guys that were super slow so he could beat them to the punch and dominate off the jab. OR, he fought more nimble but smaller guys who couldnt compete with his reach and get close enough to do anything safely so were controlled with his jab. Fury is bigger, taller and seems to have faster hands than Wlad. A combination Wlad has not had to deal with for a number of years in his career. Also Fury really did get into his head during the build up, Mental advantagtes K2 usually get for him like gloves, ring spring and so on all got whipped from under their feet. By fight night Wlad would not of been in the usual frame of mind as things had changed, not everything had gone his way. Yeah he is aging, he is definatly slowing but on that occasion It was a brilliant attack on Wlads mind by team Fury in the build up along with him having to face somebody who cant be held behind a jab cuz he was big and quick with an even bigger reach
Fury boxed a perfect game and Wlad under estimated him... age also has a big part in it too... most fighters after 35 change drastically
My personal opinion is that Wlad didnt want to let his hands go because he was afraid of getting stopped due to cuts. Just look at his face after 12 rounds of harmless jabbing with Fury and then imagen what he would look like if he actually did let his hands go instead...
Herol is always making excuses for Wlad. "Oh, he was oooold!" "Oh, he punched himself out!" etc Herol needs to come to the party and realise that the reason that Wlad dominated a decade is because he just got lucky, every time.
hedid it by having a marketing team smart enough to kid a hardcore fanbase that each next opponent, unknown and barely a boxer, was someone valuable on world level. most of the time.
Maybe. But you also have to admit that he got freaking lucky most of the time. A few examples: 1) He tripped and fell into Pulev, accidentally knocking him out 2) Mercer was totally outjabbing him and was just about to step on the gas when Wlad's personal ref saved him 3) Povetkin was just kidding around and putting on a show for the fans. He was going to knock Wlad out between 12 and 15 except for that nobody had told Sasha it was only 12 rounds. I could go on and on, but I think these clear examples are enough, even for a Wlad nuthugger like yourself
