https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7f/Attitude_droite1.jpg I use this stance 100% of the time since it was the way my first coach taught me and was wondering what the pros and cons are. I'm also a natural southpaw. And "train" on the heavy bag while trying to concentrate on having good form etc.
Somewhat mobility, range and flexibility are the high guards cons while defense, economy are pros to the stance. Very solid stance. Well rounded.
My heavy bag time accumulated so far. Weight class lightweight, glove size 16oz, and a 100lb bag. http://i.imgur.com/ktWF9sK.jpg
High guard when throwing straight punches like one twos is economical. Shortest point to A to B and then recovering your guard. Watch Floyd vs Zab and Shane.
Kell Brook has the style perfected. I was suspicious about it because he was fighting nothing but Baxster's Soup cans, but his fight against Porter was a great example of how perfect the jab can be thrown and brought back into a defensive stance and that uppercut he threw on Gennady was from that stance and it was flush and GGG felt that punch, no matter what he says. Brook was hitting GG with the same 1-2s he was dropping on Porter. He would destroy Khan and for the money he would probably give Floyd a hard time with the jabs.
