What Fight Was The Most Eagerly Anticipated of Your Time as a Boxing Fan (?)

For me, Lomachenko-Salido by a country mile. Adrenaline was going beforehand because I wanted so bad for Loma to be successful in daring to be great and I was in full Lomatard mode for a long time.

I had two fears: 'what if Loma defies all evidence he's shown of a good chin and gets KTFO really easily?'

'what if Loma paces himself too much and thus doesn't get out of first gear and throw enough?'
Unfortunately the latter fear came true and it was a pretty depressing moment in boxing. It put me off boxing for a few months.

I had absolutely no nerves whatsoever for Mayweather-Pacquiao. After Pac's awful showing against Mosley, I knew Pac couldn't beat Mayweather. After KTFO6, any glimmer of hope I had was truly dead. To make matters worse, it would be another 3 years before we got to see that anti-climactic fight.

Tyson-Lewis was hugely anticipated (at least in UK).

 

I mean no one can deny May/PAC. But anyhow, Oscar vs Tito was a big one for me. That fight was huge for its time. Tyson/Holyfield 1 and 2. My fanboyism phase was the equivalent of today's GGG fan. I just couldn't accept reality when it came to Tyson. Shane and Oscar was another. Floyd vs Ricky was a big one just cuz his fans on ESPN forum were beyond out of control. Tito vs Vargas was another huge fight. Manny vs Cotto was a big one too but only because I loved trolling Cotto fans. Bhop Tito was a classic I anticipated as well because Bhop did a good job in building up that fight. Probably the most memorable trolling I've seen other than antics pulled off by Ali or Floyd.

 

You seem a little sensitive about the subject. The man was simply using it as contrast.

 

Me personally? What fight did I anticipate the most eagerly? Hmm, I was really anticipating Salido vs Vargas and Rios vs Alvarado 2 because I like when they match two guys who are all out action fighters more than anything. I'm more eager to see good fights than I am to see two good fighters. I was pretty up for Donaire vs Rigondeaux though too. Oh, and I was really looking forward to Pacquiao vs Marquez IV. That had both.

 

There's too many to list, but I'll throw out one... Trinidad vs Vargas!!

 

People pretending Mayweather vs. Pacquiao wasn't the most talked about, anticipated, and mainstream fight ever. It was. Considering they were "midgets" to many (even foolish claimed boxing fans say/said that) and after boxing had been "dead" to the casuals for 15+ years and it still was. And it was for us forum goers because we bickered, had our prediction for the fight that we made clear hundreds of times, and made bets on the winner or even if it would ever happen for 5 years leading up to it. Daily discussions. Literally near daily. Shoot, almost two years later and those two guys and their bout are still the most talked about and emotion-inducing. Just look at this thread. Retrospect is always nice but actions speak louder than words. That was the most anticipated fight for the world and for 75% at least of boxing fans, if they can be honest with themselves and not play hipster.

Anyways, would have been nice if the thread starter didn't begin with May/Pac talk. Sort of derails everything on these forums.

 

I would ask, "how can you say that when you picked Pacquiao?" but then again I'm not exactly sure whose alt you are.

Personally mayweather v hatton. We kind of knew it was a bridge too far for hatton...but the hype here in the uk was unbelievable. After the tyszu win where nothing stopped him coming forward then taking out castillo the way he did. Everyone did start to believe for a minute. Was topped off with the unbelievable weigh in...you got the feeling he could actually do it. Cant remember being nervous for a fight before or after like it. Great occasion. The two guys were just complete opposites made for the perfect build up.

Hopefully the american anthem being booed didnt leave a bad taste but there was no real malice to it. The brits didnt really realise how insulting it was...we kind of do it as a given at football etc against the other team. Its more seen as banter over here.
