Anyone depressed after last nights fights?

Might be completely unrelated circumstances as to why I feel this way. But... I was left feeling dreary after watching most of last nights fights. Yet another iron chinned, fragile skinned Mexican warrior who can fight as well as anyone but loses his title, at least in part, due to via awful facial injuries.

You could see it coming a mile away, Israel Vasquez style. Every few years we get a fighter just like Francisco Vargas, and facial damage is always a severe fight interfering, potentially career ruining issue. Antonio Margarito, Vasquez, Fernando Vargas, Francisco Vargas, Jorge Arce. All fighters careers who are haunted and sometimes expedited to an end by paper thin skin.

This is a current theme, you wanna go right back in time where no one will know what I'm talking about..... look at Jorge Vaca, Ruben Olivares, Bazooka Limon, Victor Rabanaels, Marcos Villasana, Jose Luis Lopez. All iron chinned (or close) warriors who could take a punch and fight as well by anyone, but all of their fights having the constant of their faces eventually, or even constantly, smashed to pieces.

For christs sake, Irsael Vasquez just had is entire eye removed I believe, because it was basically dead and causing him health issues. It's just so damned disheartening and frustrating having to see blood and guts warriors have to go through that.

Anyway, just a night full of good fights with disappointing facets, some about the reality of boxing. Yay woo Frampton and Cruz went another 12 in a high end ESPN "classic". We all knew it was going to be carbon copy of the first fight, we all know Cruz would be favored, and was was, to the almost exact tee of how Frampton was the first time. Just how competitive can a fight be when there are such known, extreme variables that are such commonly known? When you know the true money match, the only match that matters to either fighter, or either promoter, or anyone making a single god damned dollar from this from the the huge third fight, preferably in the UK.

In the meantime, while watching the lower weight fight last night, I remembered that we have the likes of Rigondeaux, who on a strictly ability level might belong among the top 25 most skilled fighters of all time.... is being frozen out in a manner that hasn't been done since the mob controlled boxing the 1950's.

We could be routinely watching a true, a "full potential" Zab Judah (Pernell Whitaker with power, thanks Max!) P4P master, one of the greatest amateurs of all time who could have one of the greatest careers of all time considering the depth around his weight class. Showing his Lomochenko like potential when he rarely gets the chance to fight.

So I should be happy good matches (none the less cards) aren't made for several months of the calendar year, and then we get a good ESPN level scrap between Leo and Frampon as some kind of "This is it, the fight of the year!" In a fight that the script was already leaked and known by all weeks before it ever happened? That's good for the sport?

I don't know. Color me a ***** if that's your perception. Last night did not leave a good taste in my mouth.

If someone like Carlos Molina can get 5 fights in one year, then i am certain it´s Rigondeaux who is to blame for his own inactivity.
Yes, the top are ducking him, but his own inactivity is doing no one any favours.
Plenty of rumours about Rigo turning down fights.

Another facet to a night that left a bad taste in my mouth, last minute pull outs ruined TWO fights yesterday. Somehow one fighter got Hepatitis and a legit world champion was **** out a fighter. Good for us.

Then Tureno Johnson, an underrated fighter who would have a win over Curtis Stevens if he wasn't a ******, also has a fight fall through. He was on his way back to title contention, and being active again.

Do you think the paydays are relative to the quality of his performances, his ability?

Why shouldn't he routinely receive paydays like he did against Donaire, since that's the level he's shown he's able to operate on?

Should he have to bend one damn bit considering what he's already proven? If he isn't being given big chances, like he has proven he deserves, which I am certain he has been in at least several cases denies... does that make boxing fair? It just makes it more bull**** than any other organization of sports and they're all crooked to begin with.

Life is not fair, we all know it. Carlos Molina is willing to work his way up, but Rigondeaux is not.
He beat Donaire and got ****ed over. Now he is unwilling to put the work in to climb back up.
And Rigondeaux is not a draw. His weight, style, personality and activity are not doing him any favours.

The only ability that regulates a fighters pay is his popularity. Skill has little to do with it.

I am a boxing fan period. but i have a special place in my heart for technically superior fighters. Rigo is one of those. His fight name is very fitting for his style because a chakal will circle a pray figuring out weaknesses then attack. this dance takes place several times before the chakal goes in for the kill. I love watching this dance of death.

But there all kinds of boxing fans with various likes and dislikes. I dont think Rigo should be dissrespected just because people dont like his style.

Fighters paydays have nothing to do with their ability.

They're paid on their ability to draw fans, and bring in money.
I think that's why a lot of these Cubans have such bad careers. They come from the amateur system and think that just by being "good" they should be paid a lot

This is the problem with fighting sports , it ain't about skill, it's about ticket sellers , I pray rigo teams up with haymon, they can market him to the urban crowd. A good promoter worth his style and get rigo more fans, his YouTube views already eclipse Santa Cruz and frampton anyways, as well as lomo. Rigo is on the level of Floyd in terms of dominance . He just needs to trash these guy verbally , in Spanish , create a buzz , then whoop Santa Cruz and frampton, then make a super fight with Lomo

Which is why Mickey Ward received 1 million dollars for his final "you hit me, I'll hit you" affair with Gatti. Ward didn't have anywhere near the skill level of a Rigo, and had a truckload of loses, but he was a nice guy personality wise who put on wars in the ring, win or lose.

Rigo's handlers are at fault. He needs an management enema to flush out those incompetent handlers. Same for Andrade, Lara and Lomo.

Super Bowl has something to do with the drought. Only way a boxing card would intersect with
SB if the game was held on Cinqo de Mayo.
