Fair points all around. I would favor Roy, but I think he would have to fight way more tactical than he ever had below 175. Would he let his hands fly as often and with the same power as he normally did? GGG, despite his perceived lack of speed, does have good timing and comes from all angles with thudding power. He also positions himself well and I have yet to see anyone be the aggressor against him. He's fought guys with KO power and guys with the speed advantage, but never anyone with both, especially at Roy's level. But he's been tagged by everyone and nobody can say he was actually ever dazed. He doesn't move his head all that much? But why? Is he incapable? Maybe he knows if he keeps that chin tucked like he's mastered, he can absorb any shot. He's always in position to land his monster counters. I know Roy's athletic prowess and uncanny reflexes make him nearly impossible to bet against. But GGG is just as hard to bet against. If he stays at MW another two years, faces and obliterates the likes of Jacobs, Saunders, Canelo, CEJ, Lee, etc., I think it's fair to put him in the ATG MW convo. IMO he's that good and that's why I think Roy would be in the toughest fight below 175 he ever had. BTW, good call on Nunn. I like that fight.
Great post mate. I really enjoyed reading it. It was an absolute pleasure. I don't mind if people disagree with me as long as they apply logic and are respectful. All we need now is a time machine. Ha!
I say this all the time and maybe people will start to listen gggs CAREER AINT EVEN FINISHED so just stop putting him in with the absolute elite when he hasn't fought anyone close to jones talent or even been tested against an elite fighter. and that's no disrespect to ggg
I've done plenty of advocating for GGG for this matchup in the past. This time I'll give Roy his due and go with RJJ by UD. It's no more difficult for me to envision a scenario where GGG fails in catching him and eats flush leads for the duration as it is for me to see GGG catching and breaking Roy down or keeping him too tentative to throw. Ultimately, I think each one could be a stylistic foil for the other- it just boils down to who executes better that night.
another fantasy fight from gstring fans. too bad that taxidriver is only fighting pedestrians and not BOXING LEGENDS HOF.
I dont need to "broaden my horizons". Calling RJJ a favorite over anyone in history in his prime at 160 is very realistic. You can argue Hagler or SRR or whoever, but its a legit position. Not talking resume, but just how great he was at one moment in time. Im not some 22 year old rookie, man. Prime RJJ was the greatest fighter ive ever seen. He depended so much on speed and reflexes that it hurt him late in his career, but in his prime ive never seen his equal in speed, power and athleticism.
GG is beating Toney, Jones, Calzaghe, Froch, Hagler, Hop, Monzon, heavyweights, God lmfao... Get off of his dick damn!!!
You mean if VADA actually tests them both. GGG/Jacobs have VADA in their contract and so far only GGG has been tested. Everyone on the board of VADA is from N. America, W. Europe or the Middle East. They are their to maintain the stauts quo in boxing not do any favors for E.E's.
