Will people be happy if Wilder faces Stiverne again after Washington?

No he is the WBC champ and should face a top 5 after Washington.

 

He gets one (1) post-injury fight with a non title contender. Then it's for real....

No, he needs to take up Parker's challenge or try to get the AJ-Klitschko winner after (probably) beating Washington.

 

I presume the thought here is that Stiverne will be his mandatory.

If that's the case -- or whoever the mandatory is -- he'll have to fight that person or either go the unification route.

I don't know where the idea is that he'll only fight twice this year. Before the injury and all of the Povetkin-caused PED mess, he fought four title fights in the span of one calendar year

Wilder needs to fight the Klitschko-Joshua winner. He has had enough fights against handpicked opposition.

 

Honestly I hope Whyte gets a final eliminator vs. Stiverne after Povetkin was caught for PEDs the second time. The WBC has made it clear Stiverne will not become final mandatory without winning an eliminator fight.

 

I don't hold the Povetkin thing against Wilder by any stretch.

That said, Stiverne is done, Wilder's already whitewashed him, and he brings PED baggage, to boot. Stiverne's done nothing since the Wilder loss to sell anyone on a rematch having any sort of intrigue. It's only worth it if Wilder stays active this year, and Stiverne's one of the fights to satisfy his mandatory obligation.

If there's only 2 fights for Wilder this year, and it's Washington and Stiverne, it's a lost year for him IMO.

I'd be happy if Wilder fought Washington, Whyte and then someone like Takham or Pulev in winter 2017. That would be a good step-up for him. Of course, this won't happen in a million years, but just saying.
