This could be a problem for Golovkin if he cannot negotiate a unification with
Billy Joe Saunders as a unification takes precedent over mandatory. If a
md cannot be made against TJ then he risks being stripped of IBF belt.
Suprise , suprise TJ has close ties with Golden Boy. Since becoming champion
Golovkin has made all md and adhere to regulations and not given up any of
    his belts.TJ is 19 - 1 13 kos but hasn't fought since 17 /10/15 which is over
    15 months ago !!!

If unifying takes precedence over mandatory then he can fight the winner of Khurtsidze vs BJ without any problems, right?!
But how on earth is Johnson his IBF mando? If he has to fight him anyway, people are going to blame Golovkin for cherrypicking again.

Who cares about the IBF belt. If he beats Jacobs it should be either Canela/Chavez winner or Saunders

And they'd be tough to argue against. We (everybody) don't give a damn about the 4 belts per division.

Fight a "mandatory" who is not in the top 10 or toss the trinket and fight a legit top 10 opponent? The answer is obvious. It's not about the subject being Golovkin, which is what fanboys and haters alike get too sad and caught up in. It's true for all fighters, especially true once you've reached a certain level where you are at or toward the top of your division or the sport entirely.

If you hold a paper belt for three years beating unranked guys compared to the guy with no title who has better wins in that same time span, then the guy without the title did bigger and better things in the ring and more deserving of praise. That's all there is to it.

I'd love to hear an argument that disagrees with this thought.

For me a mandatory defence can never be a dick but obviously I'd prefer to see the best fight the best every single time.

I know they are, because their whole "bash Golovkin" thing is based on it.
But everyone knows what his goal is, and that's unfying the whole division and become the first undisputed champion in a very long time. While breaking both Hopkins and Monzon's records.
No it isn't obvious. There's a difference between cherrypicking, and getting forced to fight a guy that's below par because otherwise your entire dream will be shattered due to boxing politics (which we know is the hardest fight here). And believe me, then the Golovkin haters will ridicule him for not being able to become undisputed and blame it on lack of class! I'm pretty sure a lot want to see him fail at his goal due to leaving the division, beating up the SMW's, just to say that he wasn't good enough to break the MW record and get undisputed to boot.
    Well, here you go!

And if you had read my post carefully, unifying shouldn't even be a roadblock here.

I think you are maybe valuing and giving too much credit to the extremists when it comes to Golovkin haters. You can't cater to or fear the opinions of the extremists. It's been many years since the vast majority of boxing fans, not the extremists, stopped valuing the title organizations and their belts over the quality of the actual opponent being faced... I guess one of the problems is that Golovkin's "dream" might be aiming too low. He should be dreaming of going down as the best fighter of his era, which you do by beating as many of the best possible opponents out there. He shouldn't be dreaming of going into boxing history by spending 8 years slowly collecting 4 belts following the orders and the maze laid out by indefensibly shiesty alphabet organizations. Not when there are bigger and better things to do and you talk a mad game and a lot of people buy into the talk.

Also, I did read and know that about unification taking priority and hopefully we get a unification so it doesn't matter and Golovkin doesn't have to waste what is becoming precious time to achieve his goal fighting Tureano Johnson... And I wouldn't be saying any of this, at all, if Tureano Johnson was a notably high quality fighter in the division.

I don't even know what's being argued in this thread. If Golovkin can't make a unification bout happen after Jacobs then he has to fight a guy who he would have already fought if he hadn't been injured in training last year. So what? TJ isn't a bad fighter. He pushed in Stevens for 10 rounds before getting a controversial stoppage. The post fight conference was pretty emotional and I became a slight fan of the guy after watching. I'd be happy if he finally got his shot at a title.

It is what it is Nonito.
We saw many glimpses of that already. There's an aversity against the big name fighters coming from former Soviet states, because they're a very real threat to the establishment. I thought extreme national superioitists were a thing of the past, but it's very real in boxing and now politics it seems.
Unification right now is one of the hardest things in boxing, and really shows who's the very best. There's no ducking option anymore... no questions. If you want to become champ you have to go trough the champ, and not take the weakest link available to you.
He's so close, and be forced to abondon now because politics trows a guy like Johnson (GBP) on his path would just be sad forr boxing as a whole.

I know Middleweight isn't special or deep... but there are plenty better fights out there than Tureano. Surprised anyone'd defend it (well, haha, not really). He's a 33 year old who hasn't fought in over a year with a horribly shallow resume when thinking of a fight with Golovkin and has never even shown very good skills, even when factoring in his poor opposition and throwing him a bone.

To say Tureano deserves a fight with Golovkin is to be a massive hater and doubter of Golovkin.

Do you really think that Golovkin's team, along with HBO, weren't aware or responsible for Tureano being ranked as the mandatory? Corruption and politics works both ways, friend.

Good talk Robney, I'm not insulted/insulting or trying to talk down to you or anything, if it comes across that way.

I don't think it's necessarily an 'either , or' proposition. If GGG beats jacobs in March, and is uninjured, I don't think it's out of the question for him to fight Tureano in say late June(assuming negotiations go smoothly). Until last year (when there were negotiation delays for several fights) Golovkin had fought 3x a year or more, and has done so with some three month turnarounds.

Canelo, on the other hand has fought twice a year in recent years. So if he fights and beats JCC jr in May, a fight with Golovkin could be made for September(like he did last year) or anytime in the latter half of 2017.

Saunders will likely have Kurtzheidze on deck and that hasn't even been scheduled yet, so there would be time to fight Golovkin afterwards if he wins. Additionally, he's just hooked up with Booth, and I'm sure he's going to want some time with Billy before going after golovkin anyway.

So while there may be many reasons why the big/unification fights may not happen this year, I don't think a mandatory will automatically be one of them.

A while back folks were saying things along the lines of "Golovkin will never fight T Johnson" ... "GGG should step it up and fight TJ" etc. These guys will be thrilled that their dream is coming true!

Snark aside, TJ is not bad and a solid defence. I'd rather see Canelo / Saunders / Khurtsidze, but it is what it is.
