The reason why lt heavyweight champ sog is taking his time so the former champ clutcher can heal his brused ego and learn to box.
It's a tough sell for both fighters since both men stand to make less in the rematch. I can understand why Kovalev would do it even if he were paid less from the first bout. But on Ward's part, it doesn't make any financial sense. If it's about the accolades and proving to people that he is the superior fighter, than that's another reason altogether. I'm pretty sure he cares more about the purse split though.
Abraham is a good win but I'd agree not at all great, his best days were at 160 and he's had a couple bad marks at 168 which prevent him from being a higher rated fighter there. I think his losses to Ward, Froch, and Dirrell (all really good fighters at the time) highlight that he wasn't an elite fighter there. But his best wins there and successful title run do suggest he was at least a good supermiddleweight. I don't hold the Ramirez fight against him too much, Abraham was clearly on the slide and not at all the same fighter at that time. The Stieglitz ko hurts some but Stieglietz is a solid fighter who spent years as a top 10 168 guy himself, not too mention Abraham has 3 wins over him. I'd also agree his size and style made him a lot less effective at 168 than 160.
Ward should move on, try fight Stevenson (a much easier fight than Kovalev IMO), then move back down to 168. I thought he looked on the small side in the Kovalev fight, and I doubt he wins the rematch.
getting tired of ward tbh he needs to either rematch or just retire and go away and do something else .
If they signed a contract with a rematch clause, then that's that. A contract is a contract and your word is your word until you break it. It's not just the ethical thing to do, it's the legal thing to do, if they signed a rematch clause.
I think people should just be patient and wait to see what Andre does first. If he does decide to continue fighting, than I'd hope he'd make a rematch with Kovalev at the top of his priority list. But if the guy decides to retire at 32, how can anyone say he's ducking?
LOL Ward lost that fight my brotha. You know it and I know it. Ward needs that rematch badly to avenge his loss. Stop trolling and looking for reactions. Thats lame as hell.
The first time i watched the fight I thought it was a draw, but when I watched it the 2nd and 3rd time I had Ward up 1 point and then 2 points. It wasn't obvious be when they got inside Ward was landing a lot of short right and left hooks to Kvalev's jaw and Kovalev would immediately tie Ward up. For the last 7 rounds of the fight Ward taking the fight to Kovalev and the Krusher was MIA.
Ward looks like he's be an excellent choice for some sort of boring corporate profession where you count beans and argue about regulation 15b.
I thought Ward was going to sleep the first go around? Ward proved tougher than the haters thought! Truth be told, Kov didn't have enough skill to kill and Ward had enough skill to make the proper adjustments to finish on his feet. Although I feel Kov edged Ward out, I am glad he got the win just to read all the cry baby Kovalev lovers comments! The more you cry the more I laugh and I've been laughing for months now!!! Ward 1 - Kovalev 0. Can't change that. All Kov has is the hope of a rematch, a rematch that is controlled by Ward and Ward only. Kov has been reduced to a loser that is desperately waiting by the phone to hear of Wards decision. Ward controlling things, Ward is calling the shots. Kovalev is just a by stander.
Ward lost and now he's trying to weasel his way out of a rematch that he says will be easy but he knows that he will lose. Ward isn't a warrior. He doesn't have a fighter's heart. He's got the heart of a lawyer and an accountant, he's in the wrong profession, clearly. Spends more time arguing about contracts and in court and counting his money than actually fighting. Let him retire. He got beat, he lost, and that's an excellent note to end his career on.
