Hatton isn't the greatest British boxer of all time or even one of them. Not even in the conversation....

 

Still to this day i think hatton was better than calzaghe. I know no one will agree with that. But everyones at least allowed one controversial boxing opinion. I remember when no one was interested in calzaghe for a long time before making a sudden appearance at the end. Probably around the time he beat lacey. But lacey was a bust imo plus he never turned up on the night. The kessler win although good...i always felt kessler was overrated anyway...people liked his style so made out he was better than he was. Roy jones and hopkins were too old to deal with calzaghes style like they would of when younger. I know calzaghe was old...but stamina was his biggest strength him fighting anyone older suited his style. I m not trying to discredit calzaghe cause you can do the same to anyone hatton included. Calzaghe was a great fighter but up until lacey hatton was thought of as a better fighter here in britain with the majority. Its just that as soon as mayweather beat hatton he suddenly became not good enough. And joe was being flattered with lacey etc. If joe would have fought guys similar to pacman and mayweather in his own weight class...he would have been looking at two losses exactly the same as hatton. Its how the fans work and half the reason most fighters protect the 0. For me i still say hatton had the better career. Maybe not on paper. But he went for it. It backfired in the end. But i d much rather that than hiding it out down in wales. Think the main difference was the welterweight division at the time was better than joes division.

People need to rewatch hatton from the start. What if he,d have avoided pacman and mayweather. He,d have been something like 45 and 0. Now lets add two decent wins onto his resume. And he finishes 47 and 0 much like joe. I dont think they,d have been viewed any differently in terms of who was better like they are today. I actually think people would say hatton.

 

I personally stopped reading at "Ricky Hatton. Just the mention of his name evokes the words “Legend” and “Greatest of all Time” to resonate in the minds of boxing experts and casual fans alike." - What mental disorder would you need to have for you to think 'Greatest of all time' when Hatton is thought of?

I liked the part where the writer tells Ricky, "You've had a glistening and distinguished career...."

 

I wouldnt have Hatton top ten but he's definitely one of the UK's top 20 greatest fighters. He arguable isn't Britain's greatest Jr welterweight like it states in the article. Jack Kid Berg is. Bergs win over ATG Canzoneri >>> Hatton's win over Tszyu.

One thing Hatton does have going for him is that he did fight the best of his era. Floyd and Manny. He wasn't in the same league though. Too many flaws in his skill set to compete with the Greats. Overall though, he did provide some exciting fights and was a good fighter.

 

Hatton wasn't anywhere near Britains all time greatest.I'd put him level with Frank Bruno,in terms of domestic popularity and ring accomplishments.

 

No referee was allowed to even warn Mayweather they were there to protect him
