This time line is slightly different to what actually happened. Holmes loses his rematch to spinks, calls it a day. Tyson s on the way through his opponent s but despite been asked holmes says no to fighting tyson in 88..Tyson meet s spinks, ko 1.. Then in 89 holmes comes out of retirement but starts off fighting a few cherrie picked guys. Starts getting in shape as best as possible. In 90 tyson loses to Douglas. In 91 holmes and tyson sign up to meet in a ten rounder. With holmes shaking off the rust and plenty of time to prep and tyson head all over the place who wins?

I can't see Holmes doing much better under the circumstances listed. He might have lasted an extra couple rounds but that's about it.

I do wonder how much longer Holmes would have survived had he not got his arm stuck in the rope which gave Tyson a free shot, could he have possibly seen the final bell?

I will simplify it for you.
Mike Tyson destroys brutally pre prime holmes, prime holmes, peak holmes, mega ultra peak holmes, past prime holmes and gold version of holmes.
And even the holmes fans they selves know that holmes NEVER would beat a prime or close to prime tyson. Holmes was made in order of tyson, tyson was trained to beat holmes by cus.

If Holmes didn't fear Tyson like Douglas did then Holmes could beat Tyson if they fought in 91. Are you trying to tell me Douglas was better than that version of Holmes? Holmes just got in the ring and tried to run and do anything to survive. Holmes was never a big puncher but neither was Douglas. Douglas didn't give a damn abou Tyson's built up invincibility and threw his punches like he would normally throw them. Tyson knew he couldn't just rush in. Holmes threw his punches with fear, not to actually do damage but to keep Tyson off him.

But to be honest, Holmes was never that good. Who was he beating? Joke fighters that nobody cared about. Struggling with washed up Ken Norton's fighting Scott LeDoux in title fights. Even back in the 70's when he was 28 and Foreman called him out he pissed his pants and wanted no part of him. So I am guessing it was easy to get into Holmes head and intimidate him. Since this was the case he probably would always lose to Tyson.

Holmes was not afraid of tyson. He was claowning in the ring, laughing at one point. Fear was not the emotion he showed.

He respected Tyson. You'd be a stupid fcuk not to respect his power, and he'd have been koed sooner had he not done so.

I tihnk holmes when prime, would come within inches of outpointing prime Mike, even taking a split decision.

Holmes had the tools to beat tyson, but not only that, a champions heart chin and dedication to being his best.

Yep holmes from,1978 to at least 83 I think could beat a prime tyson and I don't say that lightly. Holmes was a tough guy in there. He did something tyson didn't. He battled through adversity, he got up from thunderous knock down s, he battled through injury s. When it looked like he was losing he didn't respond by biting ears. He was never coddled like tyson was to a degree. He came up the hard way and stopped at the top for years. So all those that say tyson would ko any version of Holmes really need to watch holmes in his best years and then tyson against buster Douglas! And I'm a big tyson fan but holmes prime beats tyson s ass!!

And that s mainly directed to the poster that says let's simply it. I'm a massive tyson fan but sorry, tyson does not beat holmes. Holmes could be a jerk with some of the stuff he came out with but in the ring he was the real deal.

Perhaps a prime Tyson would always have beaten Holmes.

Perhaps Holmes just didn’t have the specific attributes needed to beat him.

You are a sure under dog against Tyson at any point if you rely on a jab as a a needed weapon to set everything up and aren't a power puncher. You will NOT be able to get him off you or stop him from slipping jabs. Holmes would probably have landed more punches but even Tyson of 90/91 would find his mark, though Holmes does do better bc Tyson abandonded his set up jabs and less head movement but i don't think the result would change.
