    not sure if this has been done before, however what are the best fights that show a great champions going out on their shield

    Will limit myself to Brits in my lifetime. Johnny Owen is the obvious choice. I know he wasn't a champion as such but there can be few purer examples of courage in the face of certain defeat. Read 'McIlvanney on Boxing' and the two essays he does on Johnny. Poignant beyond belief.

    Less tragic but very noble nonetheless mentions.
