I think the unfortunate side effect of this whole thing is, it's a guarantee we'll never see Canelo fight on regular HBO or SHO again.

 

His own career. He's one of the very few elite fighters who makes his own decisions and takes the Lion share of the prize.

K2 has done terribly for Golovkin. I remember back in 2013 he started getting more attention but his momentum has slowed down since. He had an opportunity or two to back the hype up he was getting and we were buying into, but even to this day he is yet to prove anything more than beating a bunch of second and third tier fighters.

 

That's the ultimate prize for these guys. That's what they all aspire. Mike Tyson started this imo, ODLH took over, made Pac, and Floyd PPV stars reaching its ultimate peak. The bubble has burst. Canelo is the clear heir to this deflated era. How long his PPV reign will last will be based on his popularity.

 

Mike, Oscar, even Lennox Lewis, still fought a lot on HBO/SHO, as champions and popular fighters. At only 26, Canelo is already on only a two fight per year schedule, and only on PPV. For his age, and as a fan, that's pretty sh*tty.

 

That hinges on his fanbase swallowing him as some sort of boxing legend when in fact any of the top guns at 160 probably beat him. Years from now, people will be scratching their heads wondering WHY this fellow managed to command such a large audience when there were so many guys around that were better than him.

 

Cry me a river Lance. Life isn't fair. Boxing will always make us pay PPV on 5 de Mayo and Sept. 16, two biggest boxing Holidays in the U.S.

So it happens to be Canelo.. Oh well. He earned it.
