Virgil Hunter: What Canelo is Doing is a Mockery To Boxing!

****, I think I like Virgil Hunter even more now.

 

Virgil is a likeable trainer. He's just not that good as a trainer.

 

I agree but then again,it's Canelo turn to be a the boss and make concessions. He had to do it 2x for his position. Pacquiao only did it once. Mayweather did it once. Marquez did it. Oscar did it, Hagler did it for Ray. And on and on.

It's Canelo's time until someone STOPS him.

 

Don't know what Canelo is doing that is such a mockery, having non title fights 1lb above your title weight is common, I don't see how 2 JMW's fighting at 155 is a catchweight? Vs Chavez he's moving up 2 divisions so a catchweight makes since there, and Khan moved up one division there is no real difference between 154 and 155 this idea that it is is pretty funny to me

 

Well Hunters well on the money here but be that as it may it's not all that important in the scheme of things as nowadays Canelo isn't a threat to anyone in an actual division,fighting for meaningless trophy belts and arguing over half a pound,

 

He isnt wrong, we all know what game GBP and Saul are playing. He is moving up and down betwee weights as well as creating their own 1 man weight catagory dependant on the opposition and how much of an advantage can be gained on that opponant. On top of the weight thing there are other issues, other demands that either give them an advantage or to deter a potential threat from even sitting down to sign a contract. And im not just meaning GGG here i am meaning any Middleweight thats worth his salt.

And the fact he is next facing Chavez Jr counts for nothing. He has picked somebody who hasnt seemed fit to fight for a good couple of years, somebody who last time couldnt even make weight in his last outing and is now being asked to weight drain. A focussed and fit Chavez Jr is a very dangerous opponant for Canelo but they have took a gamble that a focussed and fit Chavez Jr dissapeared a while ago.

 

Khan accepted those terms. Fighters accept terms. In this case Khan did so for a payday. Manny was pretty good at phantom weights as well but we don't go making threads about it. Canelo is the man of the hour. He gave up advantages like so many before him. There's only a guy or two who hasn't yet. Not pointing fingers but Canelo has joined the A side club.

 

I don't think the Chavez Jr situation is that bad. It's a CW between him and a bigger guy, and kinda reaching to the limit of what Jr should be able to come down to. Chavez weight issues and inactivity make this a very probable Dawson class drainage, but that's a different point for a different discussion.

What I do think is bad, is that Canelo tried to force his opponents to come down to 155lbs for the 160lbs lineal chaampionship. Basically freezing out real 160 fighters (so all the best condenders). That's making mockery of the sport.

 

yes he is I a gree with virgil. I was a canelo fan years ago when he fought Mayweather/trout/lara but ever since then hes become a joke.

 

There's nothing wrong with two 154 lbers fighting at 155.

What is wrong is being a 160lb title holder and expecting 160lb fighters to come down to 155 whilst the title is defended.
