Marciano said he was never really hurt in the Ring, it is your opinion that he was hurt but Rocky got right up and fired back so it was more like the Joe Calzage Hopkins/Jones KD's....watching the film Marciano looked more stunned by the Walcott and Moore drops but never looked hurt. I have seen people argue that Lennox Lewis could have continued after getting up at 9 vs McCall and LL was clearly shaken and wobbling. Marciano went right back to Moore for more.
Buzzed yes, but lets not make too much out of that. This is the sort of thing that you would expect to happen to any world class fighter, at some point in their career, probably multiple times!
Rocky Marciano fans aren't smart enough to know what the laws of physics mean. But George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Lewis Lewis, Riddick Bowe, David Tua, Ike Ibeabuchi, Razor Ruddock, Ron Lyle, either Wlad or Vitali Klistchko, Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, Shannon Briggs, and about 10,000 heavyweights could knock out Marciano. You know because they were actually heavyweights. Then if 177 pound Ted Lowry could almost knock out Marciano http://boxrec.com/media/index.php?title=Fight:19970 Then why wouldn't better light heavyweights be able to do it?
the list is big actually... Apart of the obvious guys like foreman, tyson etc guys like david tua would have a big shot to bomb him out. marciano was a guy that got hurt and dropped by a 40 years old former mw
In their rematch, SHW 6"5 250lb Baer, trained by the guy who trained Holmes and Duran, couldn't last 1/10th the amount of time in the ring against Louis than 170lb Billy Conn did. Mother Mary must've come down to Earth that night, and blessed Billy Conn with the miracles of 1000 angles. There is simply no other explanation.
Jersey Joe hit Marciano with about a million punches that Marciano didn't see coming. If that didn't knock him out nobody will.
Someone I actually expect to stop Rocky? Louis Foreman Tyson Wlad Bowe has a decent chance but he'll give away all his physical advantages by fighting up close. Still he was an excellent in fighter and there's no telling how much Rocky can take of his punches. Vitali would stop him if he can keep him at range. I'm not sure if Vitali would keep that jab in his face and stop him getting inside. Rocky is known for having slow feet when he faces LHW opposition but against Vitali he'd look like Ali, however Vitali has great timing so it's a tough one to call.
Rocky can hang 50-50 with any champion before the steroid era, but like most great fighters he is limited to about 5 fights at champion level. After that he will fade bad and deteriorate. Once we get into the era of manufactured Super Heavyweights who were physically enhanced to beyond what was achievable in the years that came before it is not fair to compare because it is not possible to consider these champions reduced to how they would be without all of these benefits.
