If James Toney can go from 160 to 250 and stay in fighting shape...
Could Joe Louis pack on 40lb, stay in fighting shape, and outweigh Wlad?

That's less than half the amount of weight Toney put on.

You don't show up to a boxing match not in fighting shape.
And he won fights at that weight.

No, I don't think so. Wlad has like 4 inches on Louis and a much bigger frame and is musclebound at the weight. Louis would come in looking like Pudzianowski and gas even faster. Then everybody would laugh at "the guy with the muscles" that just got KTFO.

What I mean by fighting shape, is being in good enough shape to fight competitively.
Do you consider Andy Ruiz to have never been in fighting shape his entire professional career?

    Anyone can outweigh anyone.

Watch martial arts contests where you have 5 foot odd men weighing in at 300 pounds looking like a tank.

Whether he'd have the stamina over 12 rounds at that weight is the question that matters.

Hand speed and timing won't change as the weight goes up, not significantly. What will change is the cardio of the man and how hard he will have to train at that weight.

Louis is a patient fighter who needs to be able explode into action at any point in the fight.

At 250 pounds could he still spring into an attack after 30 minutes of fighting? I'm not so sure.

I have no doubts about Rocky because of how hard he trained, I can imagine him being in shape whatever he weighs.

Louis has a different style that requires a different kind of cardio.

I'd say that he will still dominate most people in the early rounds but if anyone survives the first half of the fight he puts himself in danger of gassing.

It might be news to you but if you're 4 inches taller than another guy but both weigh about the same the chances are you can carry it better!

It doesn't mean you will fight better though or be the better fighter.

Well this is what a 250 6'2" boxer looks like.

So it's possible, Louis would be monstrous and not lose his hand speed. I think Louis in a modern setting would probably be 220-230 though. Just better nutrition today, denser bones, more muscle. That's one thing, everyone is obsessed with muscle gains in the modern era, all around better fed fighters from childbirth are heavier just from stronger bone density.

A lot is down to choice and style.

I can choose to weigh 17 stone, I can also choose to weigh 12 stone.

It depends what I feel healthier at, where I think I'll be most successful and where I've got the best chance of making money.
