    Tua.

    What to make of him?

He had his **** against an ATG HW and lost, he had his shot against a former MW and lost.

He wasn't able to bully Byrd and enforce his will. I don't think he'll be able to bully Rocky and enforce his will on him.

IMO Tua is basically a fat version of Rocky. If Rocky wanted to add bulk on he could weigh the same as Tua.

Both have a reasonably thin resume at the elite HW level.

I suppose it's realistic that Tua lands a big combo and ends Rocky. But the balance of probability is that Rocky wins this for me.

You take two sub 6 foot men who are known for slugging and power, let them weigh whatever they want to best support their chance of success and the more skilled man should win the fight. The more skilled man is Rocky.

one of the biggest bull**** ever.
tua had x2 bigger frame than marciano. he was fat at 240, not at 225 pounds, in his prime was a tank much thicker and wider than marciano, much bigger back, much bigger thorax, much thicker legs. nice try

Tua was brave, had qualities that I can aknowledge but ultimately his career panned out to prove at the best level he was one dimentional and always fell short at top level.

Marciano was a counter mauling presure fighter. Two handed power and proven at every level available in his time. Awkward to hit cleanly by more proven accurate top level punchers than Tua. Marcianos cleanest blows were powerful enough to produce serious periods of trauma and unconsciousness right through the levels.

On the subject of size difference I put that purely down to the time both fought rather than any natural advantage worth getting excited about. 201 was what Tua weighed when he started his career. At that starting point, with all the wonders of modern sports science at his disposal Tua weighed 201 and was a still a very strong looking, fully developed youth much like Mike Tyson at a similar age.

At 5'10 I wonder what Tua would have weighed with a traditional pre 1970s boxing training programe. I wonder what he might have weighed for his debut in 1947? ...and I wonder how much heavier Tua would have gotten several years into his 1950s career considering that Mike Tyson COULD keep within 5 pounds of his 18 year old weight TEN years into his career in the 1990's?

But for me the edge must be class rather than artificial size.

The greatest fighters maintain the ability to land their best punches regardless of the levels in class they move in. The ability to find the right foot placement and coordinating that with the hands as the opposition gets better. You can't do that unless you are a very special fighter. Just outside of being a special fighter and at elite level timing is lacking. Compromises are made and in order to land anything at all less force is used. All that power, all that strength is not worth anything unless it can land cleanly against elite fighters.

No Tua was a 199lb fighter who became an artificially enhanced walking tree stump.

U are such a voice of reason on this forum. Most of the people on here just want to talk boxing, debate, have discussions and a bit of banter. But a very small minority just want to whip up trouble and are not in the least interested in adding any thing positive to the forum. Perhaps because of some anger in there life's or really nothing else to do in there day. I like many others on here participate on this forum because we have a shared interest in boxing while some have nothing better to do than troll and post abusive comments. So good on u pal for speaking out.

yes, because he weighed 201 pounds at 18-19 when he was not fully developed it was his prime weight, tyson weighed 200also at 18 so what? Tua was even bigger framed than tyson, his bones in the thorax and legs were huge, jake lamotta said "tyson is bigger and stronger than Marciano" and prime Tua was was around 7 pounds heavier than Tyson,, Mike had lower % of fat but Tua's frame was a little thicker and tyson was more muscular. both were much bigger than marciano, don't be ridiculous.
rocky at 220-225 would have looked a beach ball.
Marciano was naturally much smaller than David Tua

Marciano was a smaller man, narrow shoulders like hell. if you are insinuating that rocky and Tua were the same size .. then you are so ridiculous.

check Tua in his pro debut had a face of kid incredible, he was not even developed when he weighed 201 pounds and he looked slim like hell, marciano was much more narrow.
Plus if Tua was artificial he never ever would have this good stamina for 12 rounds

Yes if you add bulk your back and legs get thicker, that's not a new revolution, that's basic biology.

I've not seen his skeleton so I wasn't privvy to that information, my apologies.

Size is not an evident thing. Size changes depending on what the fighter wants to achieve.

Tua showed work rate over 12 rounds once on what turned out to be his Tokyo Douglas night. He lost the fight and was never as good again. Big deal. One fight he lost..

Punch stat machines record feints, and all kinds of connections that should not count. They are just a guide for tv fans. Not boxing people.

As enjoyable as Tua v Ibeabuchi was it did not represent an elite fight. Simply a good fight between evenly matched prospets. If either fighter wound up being great after that the best you could say was it was a match between great fighters before they were great.

Trouble is of course neither fighter wound up being great because their potential was not realised again. Tua got fat and Ike went mad.

How this loss makes any kind of proof for Tua beating a prime ATG is beyond sensible.

Why in the hell is this thread still going? Every white person on this forum who thinks Marciano could beat some 220 plus pound modern heavyweight because he beat 180 pound fighters (Mind you Ted Lowry a 177 pound fighter and Roland LaStarza a 180 pound fighter beat him) should be banned.

It's going so long because this thread is ultimately about two guys of the same kind of height and reach. One was a champ. One was not.
