The great Joe louis was open to aggressive fighters and over hand rights/left hooks...Bean would swarm him far worse than Galento and at a faster pace.,who even telegraphed his lunges from a two feet away and still decked him.
Butterbean wasn't even a fringe contender in his own era, Galento was once number 1 contender in his. Butterbean would never have been the ranked opposition that Galento defeated. What makes you think Bean has a more solid chin?
That getting hit with small gloves are going to hurt. Kimbo slice hits relatively hard and could not do what Bean did to Thompson.
If Bean was around in those eras and say Louis defeated him,you would here great folk lore stories of How Louis knocked out a 6'0 300 pound monster. lol Instead we overate Galento who was 5'9 230 and alcoholic bc he knocked a much smaller /lighter man down.
Kimbo was a fraud. He was good at knocking out hobos, crackheads and shot fighters but his power wasn't proven beyond that level. Thompsons chin is notoriously bad. Knocking him out literally means nothing.
Tony Galento has OVER 50% opponents who lost prior to fighting him,im pretty sure Kimbo would beat the tar out of that 5'9 230 pounder. We are comparing power anyway here not relevance. Galento would be looked at as not even a good sparring partner for Kimbo,he would be of little use really, since no one is actually 5'9 in Hw boxing.
Imagine how great Galento would be if he had the modern diet of Bean. All the fast food and extra weight would give him immense punch resistance, and enough weight behind his punches to make sure Louis stayed down.
If you take any past fighter and make up an imaginary REFINED fighter to the present they will be better with greater shape, better diets more understanding of how HW's should train ( there is a science to it ) and better track records of training programs themselves. This is just the way it is despite what anyone says. Hell Butter bean is the refined Tony Galento...lol
Or he could of ate himself in to an early grave at twenty from all that extra disposable income, and never boxed at all, or taking up a career he would actually good at like a master baker.
Well to end this discussion on the Galento bout with Bean itself...lets say Galento WAS the favorite to win . The odds would be no more than 2 to 1 ,its not like Galento is going to run the 300 pounder over. Not happening. What people FAIL to realize is distance in match making. Bean only struggled with giants or mover /boxers . Galento is shorter and easier to hit making this match a perfect setting for a Bean knock out win. I just cant understand how ANYONE thinks Galento was skilled at all, yet mock Bean who has better technique with his set ups even though he he liked to swarm and pummel his opponents and was less mythodical . He had speed and power over Galento.
Well why would anyone spar a 5'9 guy? What opponent would they be preparing for? Galento would be in the SAME boat as slice as a boxer WE all in the know ...know that. Ive fought tougher guys in the toughman contest than Galento BELEIVE me. ,one of them was a wilder knock out victim ..lol
