I was just thinking about this: Not many people that I know are that into boxing. I try and talk about it a bit with people, but even blokes I know that are massively into sport know very little about boxing. Adding to the problem is that most of the fights that get massive hype, and thus potential seen by casual fans, end up being totally ****ing **** and put them off the sport even more. To combat this, I was thinking of making a compilation of absolutely awesome fights and then every time Ive got a mate round, I can just stick an awesome fight on TV to convince them. So ESB. Here's the question I am asking you: What are the best 10 fights to watch to get people who know little to nothing of the sport into boxing? Basically I reckon you want 10 fights that are obviously competitive with both guys showing heart, power and skill. Some of the Welter battles back in the day would be perfect for this I feel. As an addendum, don't suggest anything filmed in black and white. Whilst they may be great fights, visually it is utter **** for a newcomer.

Modern day: Chico v Castillo Vasquez v Marquez I, II and III Barrera v Morales I & III Marquez v Pac I & II Trinidad v Vargas Hopkins v Trinidad (after the first couple of rounds it is a tremendous fight; the best one-sided fight you will ever see) Rafa Marquez v Tim Austin Alex Arthur v Michael Gomez (not for a world title but a cracking scrap) Gatti v Ward I, II and III Castillo v Lazcano Older, but still colour: Leonard v SRL I Duran v Leonard I Duran v Barkley Hagler v Hearns Chavez v Taylor Ali v Frazier III Black and white suggestion: Get hold of some highlights of SRR, not necessarily whole fights (maybe a documenatry or something). That man was a wonderful performer; even in old film he looks fantastic in the ring.
YEEEEES. Some great stuff in there. Watching Barrera Morales I was what made me think of this. I have a sneaking feeling that there is going to be a shitload of Mexicans in my compilation
If you can get your hands on it also take a punt on Monshipour v Sithchatchawal at super bantamweight (I think it got Ring fight of the year a couple of years back - non stop action from start to finish). worth a mention: Hamed v Kelley Pavlik v Miranda Barrera v Hamed Arce v Hussein Gonzales v Carbajal I, II and III
gatti-ward trilogy vasquez-marquez trilogy pac-morales 2 mab-morales 1 pavlik-taylor 1 monshipour-somsak sitch(just go search:yep ) castillo-corrales 1 arce-hussein2x pure excitement..mostly involves the small guys
Morales-Barrera Trilogy Morales-Pacquiao Trilogy Marquez-Pacquiao 1&2 Whitaker-Chavez Mosley- De la Hoya 1
Action fights are great, but I'd rather show someone who isn't a fan a great display of technical skills that will still be entertaining. Something like... Hamed - Barrera Raheem - Morales Judah - Mayweather
Matthew Saad Muhammad-Marvin Johnson 1 Matthew Saad Muhammad-Yaqui Lopez 2 Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier 3 Michael Carbajal-Humberto Gonzalez 1 Felix Trinidad-Fernando Vargas Diego Corrales-Jose Luis Castillo 1 Bobby Chacon-Bazooka Limon 4 Marco Antonio Barrera-Erik Morales 1 Rafael Marquez-Israel Vasquez 3 Arturo Gatti-Ivan Robinson 1
Off the top of my head I'd say for entertainment value. Gatti v Ward I Barrera v Morales I Marquez v Vasques III Castillo v Corrales I Naseem v Kelly Also the bottom 3 for total beatdowns which are also great to watch at the top level. Calzaghe v Lacy Mayweather v Gatti Mayweather v Corrales
