Do you sleep with a Jack Dempsey onezee at night? He 100% generated good power sometimes from arm punches. That isn't a knock clownshoes, its actually a compliment.
Dempsey had better technique but was prone to going total caveman. Marciano may have had a more limited repertoire, but he rarely abandoned it and he certainly made it work.
Yeah I do, you got a problem with that? It is a simple fact that Dempsey wasn't an arm puncher. Dempsey is the shiftiest fighter there is on film. Do you know what that means? It means Dempsey couldn't have shifted properly if he merely arm punched. The momentum of the punchers bodyweight is what drives each foot forward. In other words the foot on the side of the punching hand moves last not first or in between. Bad technique is never a compliment. Who says clown shoes? That's probably the corniest thing I've been called on here...lol...clown shoes...
Dempsey was the more versatile but Marciano had plenty of method to his slugging. Just take his consistent power-punching as an example - you need good balance to do that. Furthermore it made it harder to get away. Most combinations are predetermined/knee jerk reactions - one-two-hook, hook-to-the-body-hook-to-the-head. The Rock slowly built his. The benefit of this is it made it harder to escape because there were quick adjustments before letting go - an uppercut if you're hoping for a clinch, a haymaker if you're pulling back. Rocky brutalized opponents because he was good at blocking exits. That requires good observation.
Dempsey was great...but people are selling Marciano short here...Undefeated heavy champ for **** sakes...Goldstien knew his stuff.
So... you liked the clownshoes then? Good, I thought you might The point is, which mcvey touched on, that isn't what he meant; and then you ripped off the onezee and started defending Dempsey with such vigor lol. It's all right man, you'll get through this
He was good at wearing men down because he was always the fitter man.Fighters with good balance down fall on their face when they miss punches.
Dempsey was unequivocally better from a stylistic standpoint, but some of this was implicit in their different styles. You would expect a pure finisher to be more technically elegant than a pure swarmer, as his way of doing things would necessitate this.
