Archie Moore, what a terrible boxer. He didn't run away. He didn't clinch. What a caveman. I don't know how anybody could be entertained by such mindless brawling.

Archie was a true boxing master with a magnificent left hook and is vastly underrated today .
He also benefited from experience in this fight , he knew what to do when being hurt.
The pace in the later rounds was insane , reminds me a bit of Ward - Gatti .

Modern day refs would have stopped him in the 1st rd and you couldn't really blame them. He was in bad shape but it just goes to show that the true greats can come back from such adversity. Moore was a true all time great. One of the most avoided fighters and should have been categorized as one of the murders row boxers.

I do tend to believe Archie gets underrated. He was tremendously talented, good ring IQ, and lots of heart and determination.

My favorite fighter from those before my time.

Every time I've watched this I still can't get my head around how he got up from that 3rd knockdown.
Apart from his skills, what a fighting heart and a refusal to be beaten.
All at 41 years of age as well!

Yeah, that 3rd knockdown was brutally well timed, and Archie's leg seemed all out of sorts the way he fell. Guy had amazing drive.

And actually, while Archie's exact age is a mystery, I think most people peg him as being closer to 45 when that bout happened.

45? I stand corrected which makes his achievements even more remarkable.
You see fighters go down like that when they collapse over their legs, you wonder how they manage to get up apart from the effect of the punch they don't have ruptured ligaments or something.

Just seen the full fight for the first time, made me wonder how could I have missed this for so long. Truly a great war. Thanks for drawing attention to it Rummy.

Probably in the top ten fights on film ever. Can't think of a lot I'd put above it. Ali vs Frazier 3, Arguello vs Pryor 1, maybe Hagler vs Hearns, maybe Marquez vs Vazquez 3, maybe Chacon vs Limon 4, maybe Gatti vs Ward I, maybe Robinson vs LaMotta 6, and possibly Holyfield vs Bowe 2.
