Yes. aggressive pressure fighters dont do well at all at 35+
I feel bad for him that he never got a really good opponent at his prime. However Jacobs is also the best guy he's fought that can't be disregarded. IMO the next time(maybe in a year) he fights somewhat this good he loses, given his current age and how he is declining

 

If GGG timing is so terrible how was he able to beautifully use the jab to Jacobs face ? Clearly GGG timing is still excellent

GGG's accuracy and punch volume were both extremely good outlanding the younger , faster bigger Jacobs .

Who else at Middleweight can do that against Jacobs who is the 2nd best middleweight on the planet ?

Let Jacobs fight Lemiuex this summer if he has the cajones like GGG does .

I don't know if I was in zombie mode because it was 4.30 am here in the UK, but I can hardly remember Golovkin working the body?

For such a devastating body puncher I thought we would have seen it more in an attempt to slow Jacobs down but can't seem to recall any significant attack to the body by Golovkin.

Like I said could be wrong as I would have been half asleep but anyone else think similar?

 

Canelo, Jacobs rematch, BJS. Then move up to take on somebody in a big payday although i cant think who that could be right now and then retire?

Well he's in his mid 30's, has almost 40 pro fights and 350 amateur bouts so I think it's safe to say he's past his prime at this juncture. If anything, that makes this run of his all that more impressive.

I actually believe he was probably in his prime in his mid to late 20's, but at that point in his career he wasn't relevant professionally.

I'd still favor him to beat Alvarez since he's taller and has a longer reach than Canelo. He won't have to force his way inside and could be effective throwing his thudding jabs at Alvarez from a distance. Jacobs' height and reach gave Gennady big problems last night- GGG did his best work when he had Jacobs pressed by the turnbuckle or ropes.

Last night's performance has opened up many people eye's (especially the top guys at MW,) and shown that Gennady isn't as invincible as he used to look.

 

More jabs, more body punches.

Those single monster power shots are fine ... if they land. If he's missing to the head, then he needs to direct them downstairs where they don't miss. He damn near broke Macklin in half with his liver shot. If it's Sanchez' doing that he's neglacting his best punch then Sanchez needs to catch a wake up.

 

That, and maybe Jacobs is better than everybody thought.

Completely agree. Last night was the perfect storm- Danny has been on a tear since coming back from his medical issues, was the bigger man last night and is much closer to his prime than Gennady is. It was the clear # 1 and # 2 guys of a division going at it.

I don't know if GGG's stock dropped last night or if Danny's soared. I personally had Jacobs winning by one point but would've been OK with a draw (no one can complain about a robbery in a close match.) That knock down and the 12th round cost him.

 

It is quite remarkable. He probably should stay put though at 160 lbs for the rest of his career. Outside of a Jacob's rematch- which now looks like a 50-50 fight to me if Danny works on his stamina and conditioning for the sequel- I still think Gennady could clean the entire division out. He'd still more than likely knock out guys like Quillin, Saunders, Eubank Jr, Lee, Lemieux (again,) etc.

 

I think Jacobs has gone up in stature. Sometimes a fighter really pulls out his best when fighting the champion, and puts in some ho-hum performances at other times. This might be one of those cases.
