Shall we put to rest any notion of Ward-Golovkin being competitive?

Without the extra 20lbs he would have been KO no.34

That is possible. My guess is he was around 180 in the ring.

People think Jacobs is so much smaller than Ward. Certainly not in power, not in reach, not much in height (1/2 an inch) and the extra bulk may not do Ward many favors against GGG.

Don't try and be clever, if Ward isn't hurting Brand or Rodriguez level of competition he won't be hurting GGG.

    Let's lay this out:

Jacobs ========> 5' 11.5" with 73" reach and big power and maybe 175-180 in the ring. 30 years old.
Ward =========> 6' 00.0" with 71" reach and zip power and maybe 185-190? in the ring. 33 years old.

Ward has slightly more bulk, less reach and less power. What is Ward going to do, bodyslam GGG?

Ward trying to "muscle" GGG takes him right into GGG's pocket. So the bulk isn't likely to help much.

Likely, Ward gets on his bike as much as he can. But eventually he is going to come inside and he's likely to eat some big bombs. Especially since GGG would have zero respect for his power and would be walking him down from the start of the fight.

Put it this way I remember when everybody said Kovalev vs. Chilemba showed how Kovalev vs. Ward would not be competitive. Then Kovalev beat Ward up and got robbed. A lot of short memories on here.

Ward would not school GGG, he would outsize him period. Golovkin is a natural middleweight and Jacobs entered the fight over 180 just looking at him and it made a difference. Michael Spinks tried to lure Hagler into a fight at 175 and Hagler said no ,he's a middleweight. Good choice too he'd have gotten killed

I think it will be competitive fight and GGG has good chances to win it. Hopefully it will happen.

The only way to beat ward is to kill him in the ring. We have witnessed a boxer drop him, out jab him, out land him, make him run for his life and they still gave ward the decision. If GGG managed to knock ward out it would be ruled a DQ.

I think Ward would school GGG. Ward would take his best shots, and smother him on the inside and totally frustrate GGG. GGG needs to stay away from Andre Ward.

For mine GGG didn't show much resilience last night. Like somebody said in another thread GGG has that bully mentality and he doesn't like it when someone stands up to him, I could see Ward out boxing him and beating him up on the inside maybe making GGG quit on his stool in the mid to late rounds.

Style makes fights. Ward doesn't fight like Jacobs, who I thought performed above his usual ability.
The only similar things Jacobs and ward have over GGG is size, and looking from last night fight, body punches. Jacobs did a great job putting some body work last night.
The notion that because Jacobs did well against GGG, so ward will whitewash him is nonsense. Nobody will dominate GGG. He has tons of power and great fundamentals, those jabs were hard rods.
As the proposed match up, I thought Ward will beat GGG above 160 before last night.
Last night fight didn't change my mind.

Goes 12 with Kovalev and wins but doesn't last 12 against ggg who doesn't hit as hard as kovalev and is smaller. Ward would bully gggs ass all over that ring theres a reason why ggg didnt want that fight. Log off.
