    What are some other examples of this, both famous and obscure?

    In the older days pretty much every champion fought into he weight class above before winning their first title.

    Roy did it. But shouldn't have. He should have fought tyson or toney and retired.

    This one might be pushing it... But Mundine did win the IBO Middleweight title in 2009, and the WBA interim JMW in 2013.

    Floyd Mayweather moved up and won the WBA super welterweight title from Miguel Cotto and the WBC super welterweight title from Saul Alvarez then moved down and won the WBA Welterweight title from Maidana and the WBO welterweight title from Manny Pacquiao.

    Then Alvarez moved up and won the WBC middleweight title against Cotto and moved back down to win the WBO super welterweight title against Liam Smith.

    you could argue that Nearly All modern fighters are really at least 1 weight division smaller than what they 'really' are, but in answer to the question posed.

    Bernard Hopkins has made a career out of it at middleweight, he ALWAYS has been what he is now and that was/is a L-HW.
