What do you guys think about this. For clarification, we saw what Golovkin would look like vs a supermiddle weight. Even tho Jacobs made 160, he had 38 HOURS to rehydrate. That's a long time. Golovkin, were he to move up to 168, im sure would allow himself to hydrate up to 178 at most? At 35 years old the heaviest he was fight night was Rubio at 174. So at least 175, maybe a few more pounds. Any heavier, and he would be slow slow slow. I think we saw vs Jacobs that his power would be negated at 168 vs those bigger guys. Even Murray showed us a glimpse. Murray went 11 rounds and Murray is no big puncher. A heavier handed 168 fighter would keep ggg off him more than he was off Murray. Probably safe to say that he would have problems at 168 vs the biggest and best up there.
I know a lot of people will not like my comment but since GGG has been elevated to Hagler, SRL, Duran, Monzon and Hearns status, I'll play devils advocate. On Saturday morning GGG weighted in at 169 lb, so there goes the theory he's not able to move up. People saying, he's a small MW and he should stay there. In recent boxing history, FMJ went to JMW and never went over 154 lb and even when he fought at WW he only hydrated 2-5 LB. That was Saturday morning, I bet once GGG stepped in the ring he had gained at least 3 - 5 LB more. He probably was around 170 - 174 LB.
What A crap. Jacobs would be Champ at super middle weight. Right Size, the fastest Fighter, smart and KO Power. SMW is ****. There is not one really Talented Fighter
Ramirez is a giant as is Callum Smith. Degale is talented with a solid resume. GGG Won't be able to Danny Geale these guys
I think he can still be successful at 168 with the current scene. There isn't anybody outstanding at that weight at the moment. He won't have the same dominance he has at 160 because of his style and physical dimension. Also time is not on his side. But to pick up a belt or two is certainly within reach. During the super6 time however he would have harder task, the competition at the time was certainly tougher and most of those will tower over him. Still, at worst he will be 50-50 against all. Nobody dominates a prime golovkin.
SMW would be tough, I think he might fight some guys at that weight just for money ones he vacates the MW belts
Not sure GGG will be a good super middle. He's in the Hagler mold just right for 160. He's 35 so his body is fully is grown and his walking around weight doesn't balloon up to far from 160. On top of that he has bjs, and Canelo waiting for him. Lee as well and maybe even one or two big names from 154 if they test the waters at 160. Now as for the question of GGG vs Jacobs at 168. Triple G defeated him at 160 albeit in a white knuckler, I think he would win again.
He could decision everyone at 168, he doesnt need to knock them out. But that puts him at a high risk to getting robbed by the judges if it goes to the scorecards.
He could win belt at 168 for sure, but he would be much smaller than his opponents. Just watched Brook-Spence interview and to me Spence looked a bit bigger than Brook. In other words, Spence and Golovkin seem to have similar size. Spence will be a mw someday. Jacobs will do fine at 168.
