I think Cotto would have dominated if not stopped Canelo if they were the same size

Cotto aged really well considering the punishment he took in his career Against canelo and geale, His defense actually looked better than in his prime so he must still have good reflexes, his punch resistance hasnt diminished and his handspeed didnt look bad either. His skin now swells and cuts much much easier than pre margarito but what really impressed me was that he had the legs to move for 12 rounds at 35 years old with a much bigger fighter hitting him in the body. The only thing we didnt see from him was his power which was very good at 40 and 47 mayorga and pacquiao said cotto hit him harder than anyone else, but canelo was 15-20 lbs bigger so cottos power had no effect. Cotto was no question the better fighter p4p even at 35 with all the wars he was in.

Cotto has really good power, even now, when he can use it. Remember, power is always the last thing boxers lose.

He KTFO Sergio Martinez and Daniel Geale, two MiddleWeights, and has the power and punch technique to KO anyone including Canelo.

I've watched the Cotto-Canelo fight at least 3 times if not more, and what happened to Cotto's power was that he chose to not put the weight behind his punches he normally does. Like you said, he was being more defensive, and one tactic he used was to fight off the back foot, instead of his usual stalk, attack, and go for the KO style. As a result his punches didn't have the same effect like when he used his classic Cotto style against MWs Daniel Geale, Sergio Martinez.

In round 1. Canelo beat him to the body very good, probably landed his best body punch several seconds before the bell rang. When Cotto got to his corner he was clearly out of breath and inhaling very hard, even while sitting, he didn't breath like that after any other round after that.

So I feel that help set the tempo of the fight. Cotto was going to be more defensive than what we're accustomed, similar to his 2nd fight with Margarito, and as a result he was going ensure his survival, but make it difficult for Canelo to really hurt him.

Imo if Cotto would have been 5 or 10 lbs heavier, the outcome would have been the same, Cotto would not be as fleet footed, or as fast, so he probably gets KO considering his shaky chin.

If i were 6`5 instead of 5`10 with my athleticism id of been an NBA all star making millions instead of a division 2 player who now makes 70,000 a year. Point? Im not and Cotto isnt.

Cotto's always marked up pretty easy imo, before Margo. I really do think Canelo's bang average. Way bigger than Cotto and Cotto made a good fight of it

Cotto is an elite athlete who has KOs over two top MWs, Martines and Geale.

Even GGG struggled more with Daniel Geale than little tiny mini Cotto as you like to make him out to be. Fact is when Cotto was fighting at WW 10 years ago he was already weighing in close to 160.

He's not as tiny as youd like to believe.

Thats pure speculation on your part. Canelo has never weighed more than 174 for a fight.

If you think Canelo who is really 5'7 weighs in 180+ you are clueless.

Here is Rugby player Leigh Halfpenny who weighs 185 and is 5'10.

    Massive!

Canelo would look like an absolute body builder at 5'7 at 185. Omg that would be ridiculous.

Cotto is an idiot, he should have demanded it at 154 or 153 and he would have won.

The result would have been the same IMHO .

Both fighters started at 140 pounds .
Canelo is just naturally stronger and longer with a youth advantage .

Martinez was done. The win was nearly as bad Bellews over Haye. Cotto whatever way you look at is a welterweight, that would've been knocked out by a healthy peaking Martinez. Timing, that s all !

Cotto can't make WW. No matter which way you cut it, Cotto has KO wins over solid MWs.

Cotto also has a better resume than any Jr.MW or MW champion right now.
