Is Glen Johnson the only fighter Calzaghe has ducked?

So you take that comment by RJJ as "ducking" Calzaghe? :nut

 

Pulling out of the Glen Johnson fight had nothing to do with Glen Johnson. He'd have pulled out of the fight regardless of who it was. The depression as a result of his divorce led to physical and mental problems that meant he couldn't fight.

Also, to say he ducked Johnson THREE times? Complete nonsense. They had a fight scheduled and Calzaghe pulled out. Warren wanted to reschedule it for a different date but Johnson and his promoter Dan Goosen were not happy with the timing and wanted to seek out an unexpected opportunity that came up with either Tarver or Jones. It was Johnson's choice to defend his belt against someone else. There was only ever one fight in the works.

Sorry. I just assumed. You know how some Calzaghe fans can get overboard. I assumed you were one of them. So your point was more to say that Calzaghe was willing to fight RJJ rather than RJJ ducking Calzaghe. :good

 

Pretty much just Johnson. Twice if I remember. Probably was the right move. If anyone will out throw Calzaghe and beat him at his game, Glenn's the one to do it.

 

How about they settle this now? Should be a rough semblance of a prime-for-prime match, as both are old and on the downslide. :think

 

To clarify, I think it could be said he did duck Johnson. But like I said it wasn't because of Johnson himself. That is the only occasion when Calzaghe has pulled out so suspiciously and he has pretty much admitted that all was not as it seemed. The reasons explained at the time were tangible injuries, whereas if he references it now then he speaks more about emotional problems.

As for anything else with Hopkins and Jones or anyone. I don't think any of that was a case of people ducking each other. It's normal for negotiations between parties who each carry a lot of clout to break down. Jones certainly had a lot of options and Calzaghe was not at the top of the list. The Hopkins fight could have worked out were it not for the fact that B-Hop has always been a bit weird. He was always well known for being far too stubborn and often farcical in demanding money that wasn't there. It's no coincidence the man ended up fighting so many mandated fights. The only time he started match making was when he was fortunate enough to get into the position where he could make the money he believed he could.

Not at the time. He said he had a back injury. But he retrospectively cited problems related to his divorce as being the reason.

The fight was only cancelled on one occasion by the way. Johnson declined the offer to reschedule and they concluded business.
