"Middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez says that they plan on moving up to super middleweight after one 1 or 2 more fights. Sanchez says Golovkin will fight in June, hopefully against Billy Joe Saunders or Tureano Johnson. After that fight, Sanchez says they’ll see if they can get the fight against the “Redhead,” Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, and if they can’t get that fight, then they’ll be moving up to 168 to begin campaigning in that weight class. Sanchez says the objective at super middleweight is to win all 4 of the titles to unify them in the same way that Golovkin has been working on in the 160 lb. division."

I'd like to see him break Hopkins' defense record first, though! He's so close!

I don't believe a word anyone from GGG's team says. They seem to contradict their claims more often than most big name fighters.

No doubt it's a possibility, but I personally believe this is just Sanchez's way of telling De La Hoya a) to get a move on with negotiations and b) that they aren't going to be ridiculously dictated to by him.

Sanchez is a bit of a motormouth, granted. I suspect that TKO may be close to the truth when he says they could be trying to gather leverage against Canelo here. The thing is, I don't think Canelo really wants this fight to begin with. If TKO is right, they may be overplaying their hand.

I don't think Canelo wants the fight, either. But I also don't think GGG will be eager to leave 160.

    Just Abel blabbing.

Nobody really believes he's fighting Johnson in June and would move up before fighting Saunders or Canelo.

He seems like a natural MW to me. I also don't see the advantage beyond maybe securing a Ward and a Chavez fight.

Seems to me that it would be better to stay at 160 to put pressure on Canelo for the fight after getting all 4 belts. Canelo is not a 154 guy and I think the weight cutting is killing him now. If I were Saul I'd be ecstatic at GGG leaving 160 and would spin a story about "Golovkin ducking me and running to 168" that all the IsaL's would lap up.

I have to wonder if this is just Sanchez having a 'brainwave' on his own or a unified team decision?

    Agreed.

    - GGG is perfectly suited for middle.
    - Canelo would be thrilled if GGG left 160
    - Sanchez is trolling

Good. He has already proven himself at middleweight. Time to move up and prove himself further.

i hope golovkin doesn't move to 168, it would be very tough for him to compete there, the top dogs at 168 are all huge compared to him...
