Why is Canelo not getting credit for moving up in weight?

Could be because too many of you put "moving up in weight' as some type of criteria for greatness, when the reality is, most guys who move up do so out of getting Beat out of their former weight. Or if you are Broner, to collect titles against the easier titlist available.

 

Because it was part of a cynical ploy to drain Chavez down to a weight where Canelo believed he would not reach without being severely depleted. Apparently the agreement was at 165 before utilized his "A-side" privileges to cut an extra half pound off at the last minute and then stipulating that $1m fine would be leveraged from the purse per pound over weight. Hopefully this all blows up in his smug ginger face as he did not bet on Chavez taking this fight as seriously as he has appeared to thus far.

 

Any Chavez jr fight is a bad fight and pointless. He's just a cash pot everyone wants a piece of before the Mexican casuals finally realize he's not his dad and quit giving him chances.

 

Be amazed if he can make weight. Well if fight goes ahead his next fight has to be ggg or he is ducking him 155 then 164.5. And a like canelo

 

It's simple. Khan wasn't the favorite and neither was Brook. Neither was Duran against Barkley. Canelo hasn't been taking the risks a true Mexican warrior should be expected to take. That's why he's losing fans and alot of respect.

 

How do you figure that? Outside of a GGG fight who has he not beaten that is thought highly of. Most of these JMWs are new on the scene like the Charlo' s who became relevant last year, and most MWs suck for all the flack Alvarez catches some deserved he's fighting and beating better guys than the fighters in surrounding divisions.

 

Which shows that a lot of these fanboys in the US DKSAB and pay for this crap. No wonder Oscar keeps doing it - same stupid people buying the same rigged contests.

First off, no one was asking Canelo to jump over the middleweight division and fight at a 164.5 pound catch weight against a guy who's been on the slide for some time. Most people simply wanted to see him fight a solid MW at the actual MW limit for once to see where he stands in that division.

Instead, Golden Boy's choice of Chavez could not be a more obvious low risk, high reward move. They are banking on Chavez being too shot/drained/undedicated to really stand a chance of upsetting Canelo, and they know this fight will sell big to the Mexican fans regardless. If Chavez does better than expected or somehow beats Canelo, we are ensured a PPV rematch for big bucks. Smart business really. It's all about the money and has been for quite some time now, whether we like it or not.
